The marlin spike locks open (that’s what the small lever on the blade side is for), but the blade does not.

Is this a German made knife or the Chinese version?

I'm pretty sure it's German made. Very sturdy, a thick blade for cutting rope, & a nice fine point on the locking marlin spike. My other experience with Chinese steel involved bending and breaking it. No way that's happening with the blade I received.

This is a fine knife, well-made of good stuff. My only gripe is that the blade does not lock, which has been a problem in the past that is now written on my hands.

incredibly poor, and dangerous build quality. All 3 sided brass rivets were sticking out and sharp edged. And, the brass blade liners are razor sharp. Unsafe for the user in even normal use.

A great sailors knife that won't break the bank

This is a based on the German post-WW2 era sailors knife made issued to seamen, sometimes called a 'Deck Knife". it features a sturdy 3' spear point stainless steel blade and a locking Marlin Spike. It was designed for ship work were ropes are used. The construction is traditional with brass liners and plastic scales with stainless steel blades spring and lanyard bail. Today these knives are used by yatchsmen and boating enthusiasts. The knife is easy to open for fast deployment and fits the hand well. As a boat knife it is rust resistant, though oiling the joints is a good idea. The build quality is good for a knife in this price range. Made by Mil-tec in Germany
