Great product use the correct batteries
I’ve owned this oil gauge for at least 5 years and I love it. Having the ability to check fuel oil levels without having to go into my basement is great. My wife can monitor the usage also. Their costumer support is excellent. I had an issue with my new batteries and Hunter walked me through the entire process. BTW be careful with the Amazon batteries they don’t fit correctly better to use the batteries that smart oil sells.

Excellent way to monitor home heating oil level
I have an above ground 275 gallon home heating oil tank on the side of my house. Not trusting the float gauge I would tap the side of the tank to get an idea of the level. I had always wanted to get an oil level sensor and gave the Smart Oil Gauge Duo a shot. I’ve had it installed for 1 year and 5 months at the time of this review so have a good amount of time with it.I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this oil level gauge. Keep in mind you do not get measurements in real time. The sensor takes a measurement every hour and stores it in its memory. The sensor then uploads the reading based on the frequency you set in the app. In my case I selected 6 hour increments. Essentially every 6 hours the app shows the previous 6 hours.Installation of the gauge was no problem. Simple plumbing connections, just make sure you use a pipe tape or sealant that is compatible with fuel oil.Once installed everything was straightforward. You can see the oil level in a bar chart, over the last day/week/month/year and the consumption over those same intervals. The app is ok but you can only see the data in the default time scale, can’t zoom in or customize the display.I let the oil burner run out of oil to figure out how many gallons of oil was remaining in the tank at “empty”. I then added 5 gallons of diesel to get by until the home heating oil was delivered. Smart Oil detected the fill up and thought I got 202.1 gallons, the actual delivery was 202.7 gallons. Couldn’t have asked for better accuracy. One thing is that my tank is in direct sunlight. As the tank heats up the level artificially changes (only by a gallon or so) but the nightly readings have been correct.Attached are a few screenshots of the app. It’s nice that you can see the oil tank level over the year and see the consumption over the winter vs summer. The app also estimates how long until the tank reaches 1/4 and 1/8 so you have an idea of how long before you need to get an oil delivery. You can also set up alerts and reminders so you never run out.Overall this gauge is great and would highly recommend it to anyone with an oil tank.

Fire Hazard and Wifi Issues.
No matter what I did I could not connect to wifi and stay connected. I moved my router, restarted my router, turned off and on, etc. My router is not even that far from the tank (which is in the basement). I finally connected, went down to install it and bam…no wifi again. I then moved the router as close as it would go and finally got it to connect. I called my service guy to install after I filled the tank. He said no way does he even recommend this. It’s got lithium ion batteries, which by the way he said have to be replaced constantly, and the device is not even UL certified. He said he’s strongly against installing the device due to the risk involved with this type of batteries on a tank of oil…huge fire hazard and not worth the risk. I told him to go ahead since I already bought the thing but lo and behold, as soon as we go to install it…no freaking wifi AGAIN. We got back on wifi, and put it on. The reading was not even accurate even with trying to troubleshoot. Between connection problems, massive fire risk due to lithium ion batteries on an oil tank…and a device that is not even UL certified..and completely inaccurate, no thanks. I am returning it. There are also too many bad reviews about how inaccurate the readings are with it, and I’m not the only one with the connection issues. I called my service guy again three days later after the reading was still incorrect and had him remove the device. Nice waste of money all around with the cost of the device and the cost of a service call.
