I have found this model to be as worthy upgrade from the UV-5R. The menu system is simple to navigate, scanning is fast, audio is loud and clear, receive is sharp and does a nice job rejecting line noise that affects the earlier models. The radio is well-built and feels substantial in the hand. I really like the memory "Zone" function with the 1000 memory positions.The first radio I received failed, went dead for some reason. I promptly made contact with my problem and had a replacement in-hand in 20 hours! The return of the first radio was easy and painless.I am enjoying my BF-F8HP Pro, using it on the 3 ham-bands, GMRS (licensed for both), aircraft, Public Service and FM broadcast daily!

The BTECH BF-F8HP Pro is the best mid-priced handheld radio you can buy. It's the best baofeng you can purchase with the added benefit of a support team in South Dakota. It’s a serious upgrade over the your current Baofeng radio and even the original BF-F8HP, both in build quality and features.✅ Great Performance & Power: The selectable power levels (1W, 4W, 8W) give you flexibility depending on your needs. At full power, I’ve had no trouble reaching repeaters 10+ miles away with a decent antenna. Audio is crisp, and the receiver is sensitive enough to pick up weak signals clearly. I tested Tx power at over 8W on high for 70cm & GMRS and just under 8 on 2m.✅ Improved User Interface: BTECH has improved the menu system and screen layout—much easier to navigate than older models. It also comes with a better antenna and a larger battery (the 2100mAh pack), so you’re ready to go right out of the box.✅ CHIRP Programmable: Programming via CHIRP is quick and easy. I have not been able to make it work with my Btech Uv-pro.⚠️ Important Note – 2nd Harmonic Emissions:Like many affordable handhelds in this class, the BF-F8HP Pro does have noticeable second harmonic emission on the 2m band, especially when transmitting at higher power. This means it may transmit some signal outside of its intended frequency, which could cause interference. If you're a licensed ham, it’s important to understand this limitation and use the radio responsibly. For casual or non-critical use, it's unlikely to be an issue, but if you're concerned with ultra-clean output, you may want to use an external filter or consider a different model. For me, I do not use this radio with my Radio club events, but I do have these in my family kits in case of emergency.Final Thoughts:For the price, the BF-F8HP Pro offers excellent value—solid power, clear audio, improved usability, and a great battery. While the 2nd harmonic emissions are a known trade-off in this tier of radios, it’s still a reliable and capable radio for hobbyists, emergency preppers, and anyone learning the ropes in amateur radio.Highly recommended with responsible use.

Having a great time with this little radio!The entering of stations and the 10 "zones" is perfect! Nobody wants to have to stop the car every 30 miles or so to check and uncheck stations when traveling! The DMR radios do this, so why not Analog. Love the CPS!Menu is simple, uncluttered, and does everything one needs to do with few submenu's. Meter-measurements on my radio are showing 10 watts on HAM VHF, and 8.8 watts on UHF. I haven't used it on1.25 meters yet -- there aren't any repeaters for this near me. Signal reports are excellent and audio quality is clear and clean. I have loaded in my aircraft frequencies so I can follow my grandson's flying lessons (Can't talk on the frequencies, but you can hear everything.) My only complaint about that is that if the aircraft's signals are weak, they sound fuzzy. Battery life is unexpectedly long, even while using it at full power. GPS is nice, but it gives the resultin lat/lon coordinates. It is NOT an APRS radio, but I am told that Baofeng is working on that. However, if you have a friend who also has this radio, you can transmit your position to him/her. I'm still discovering things in this richly endowed radio. Also, it is updatable so I anxiously await additional features! Great Analog radio at a super price!People laugh at Baofeng's little radios. THIS one is loaded!
