Well-Made - But Ultimately Not Worth It
As much as I appreciate having a smart TV, I bought one of the least expensive I could afford, and I have been paying for it ever since - so-to-speak. Let me explain: Toshiba makes the TV I have (an amazon Fire TV) and I truly love the mic on the remote and how I can simply speak what I want and it'll go fetch it for me. That feature is remarkably simple and absurdly convenient when you want to watch the next episode of a show, but can't recall which streaming service is carrying it.Unfortunately, the software on this TV is some of the slowest I have ever seen. Including the much older TV my GF has but is far faster because they didn't try and do the same thing using far cheaper processors and barely any memory at all. The user experience with remotes on this particular TV is hit-or-miss to say the least. It glitches, restarts spontaneously, stutters - the whole 9 yards...and I DON'T mean that in a good way. Some of that is the stability of the apps I have downloaded - I get that. But I'm talking about the average, every day use of just trying to navigate from one screen to the settings, and looking to see which apps are available etc.One of the major downsides to this particular TV is I am currently on my 5th remote control. For whatever reason, they don't seem to last very long, no matter which one I get or how much I paid for it. Makes no difference. They seem to be fine for the first couple months or so (notwithstanding the other every day issues the TV has above and beyond that which I already mentioned earlier) and then it begins to seriously struggle with doing anything. I am remarkably gentle with my electronic equipment in case you were wondering. Stuff isn't built like it used to be and therefore, I try to get as much service out of it as possible, and I ensure this by simply taking good care of my stuff. But with these remotes, that hardly seems to matter. They just stop working well after a few months and then I end up getting frustrated and order another one...hoping the NEXT one will last longer.Jump to this particular remote. I felt that it was better manufactured - at least at first. I still feel as though it's tougher than most of the previous remotes I had used, but as far operating properly? I didn't even get 2 weeks out of this one before it began going south on me. Worst yet is that after I turn off the TV, it spontaneously turns back on. But not right away, no. It'll wait till JUST about the moment I'm falling asleep and BAM! Back on and giving me a mini heart attack in the process. I'll shut it off and 10-15 mins later, it's back on again. Either the remote is the culprit or I have a pesky poltergeist I need to call the Ghostbusters about. All joking aside, it's frustrating. Guess my search for the best remote continues because this one, well it definitely AIN'T it.
