I do not think that is what you are to use it for. I would not. The solution removes protein and dirt from your lenses. It is a cleaner not an eye drop. If you need something to assist in the dryness of your eyes the safest thing would be an artificial tear solution.

How often do you have to switch out the solution in your contact case?

I always use fresh solution every time I have my contacts in the case. So I take my contacts out every night, put them in the solution, and in the morning that solution is discarded. I would never recommend using the same solution unless you are storing your contacts long-term without wearing them--and even then I'd likely change it out every few days.
