Can this be plugged into a timer please?

Hi you can use a timer I do on one of mine but the thermostat will turn it off and on once you set it at the desired temperature , it depends if you want to keep the building at a steady temperature if so I would suggest using the inbuilt thermostat if you only want it to warm the area up at certain times then a timer would be better. I have 3 of these one on a timer because I only need the area warm at night the other 2 just work via the thermosat and the are is kept at a nice constant temperature as the unit flicks on and off to keep thet set temperature. How much per hour does this cost to use?

at standard 15.8p kwph cost it's around 12p per hour whilst on constantly. It will flick on and off with the thermostat though

Is the heater silent?

We never hear the heater. There is a very small click when the thermostat is activated but nothing that would be noticed unless you live in absolute silence.

what are the benefits of an oil free radiator as opposed to an oil filled radiator

Oil free is More immediate warm up, but also cools quickly. This is useful for camping -or anywhere you would want to move it after use. Also it is lighter for moving.
