Could i use my burning pen rather than a heat gun?

I don’t have a burning pen , so can’t comment . However , I brought a craft heat gun and it didn’t work as not hot enough. Had to go out get another hear gun that achieved a much higher temp. Worked great after that

When Torch Paste is used on a surface that will be in contact with food items, it is recommended that the surface be sealed with a food grade sealer after applying/burning Torch Paste. Some sealers may require periodic re-application, use and reapply as directed.

Can you reuse the paste?

A very small layer is needed for great wood burning success. Scrape off the excess paste from the stencil and return excess to jar.

Can you use this with a small Brush to paint your own designs

I have only used it with a stencil. You would need to be very careful if you were painting freehand as if even one bristle of the brush splayed out it would show up as a burn. I guess it depends what design you have in mind as even the tiniest bit of paste burns. It is good that it is slightly coloured so you can see the design if you are using a light coloured wood. It is quite expensive for a small pot. With a stencil you can scrape if very thin and put any residue back in the pot which you probably wouldn’t be able to do if you were painting freehand
