That depends on the thickness of material you are measuring. Generally, anything I measured was in the range of 2-4 mm, so I never had any issues. If wider than that, I would say about 6.5-7 inches of clearance.

Q: What is the minimum thickness that can be measured?

On mine it is 7.4" max and 0.00 min. It is only accurate to 2 decimal places.

Q: If I had a 7.5" cylinder object, could these calipers measure the outside diameter? or will the body of the caliper hit the object while measuring

You can measure the object. (just barely but it will work)
