Cannot recommend them highly enough. If you have a struggling reader on your hands, start with A and move up, as you practice the alphabet and phonics sounds. Give it time and patience. Wish all well! Review: Appropriate, Enjoyable, Longer Words, Excellent Pictures & Nice Quality Readers! - Second of the ABCD set of Guided Science Readers and appropriate for beginning readers. The B readers are very simple ideas about nature/animals/people but the words aren't so simple, so instead of a lot of only two or three letter words, the child is taught to read words up to seven letters long in sentence format and in repetition style (which is fine so not to intimidate a new reader who is reading more than simple words right from the beginning and expanding from set A.) Pictures above words are clear photos and appropriate and match the words. Would recommend for a reader who knows the alphabet and a few shorter Pre K - Kindergarten sight words and some sounds that some letters make (phonics). The B readers are eight pages long and good for children's small hands (5 and 1/2" by 5 and 1/2" or 14cm by 14cm), but again not to intimidate and remain approachable and enjoyable while encouraging. Covers are card stock and pages are glossy and are about as thick as typing paper and the edges are sewn, nice touch. These will last through several readings and can be stored in the matching sturdy cardboard box. Animal reward stickers and an activity book are included which further encourage learning and very early reading comprehension skills! Bought all four of the ABCD reader sets since they expand from the set before. Recommend for any child who is learning how to read!

My kid likes it
That’s the most important thing, right? The kid is interested in learning about animals and reading these books.

Bugs and critters excite boys' reading
Easy, repetitive, with very few words. Great photos! Select a level from A to D which is the level our kindergarteners are asked to be ready by the end of the school year. Good for ages 3 - 5 or for readers with disabilities Great way to learn sight words. I'm a retired primary reading teacher. and bought these for my grandsons.

Great readers
I actually got these for my 2nd grader, who is a very reluctant reader and missed out on the second half of 1st grade due to the shutdowns. The books have simple, repetitive sentences that she's able to read without fighting me, and it helps to reinforce reading by sight words. We're able to find relevant videos on YouTube to go along with each of the books and round out science. The set comes with a cute little activity book that has the child draw a picture and write a word from the book, and it has a reward sticker to go with each book (though there's only 4 different stickers). The only reason I knocked down a star is because these books are insanely expensive. $20 for a repetitive sentence?? But I bit the bullet and bought the next set. I'm hoping to slowly increase my daughter's reading level without her noticing. But at $20/ set I may break the bank before I get her up to the level I'd like.

My son is in kindergarten and having a difficult time ...
My son is in kindergarten and having a difficult time reading. In stores, I can only seem to find Level 1, 2, 3 but those are much too hard for him. This set of books really fits the bill for his ability level. He has gotten through the A's and B's and has now moved on to the C's and D's. Each book is about 8 pages long with only a few simple words per page, most are repeated throughout the book. My son loves all things animals and nature, so the science readers are just what he needs!

These books are perfect for both my Kindergartner who is struggling to read ...
These books are perfect for both my Kindergartner who is struggling to read and prefers "real photo" books AND my 3 year old who can already read quite a bit. I love that they come with stickers to chart out progress and an activity book to follow up on the content (and practice writing!). These books have brought back confidence to my anxiety-ridden Kindergartner and now she feels comfortable reading! Thank you!

Really nice set of 17 small books in card storage box (16 reading books and 1 activity book referring to the other books) + a sheet with 16 round stickers. I think this is going to be a great help teaching my kids to read, each page in the books has a picture and a short sentence referring to the picture (4 double sided pages per book = 7 pictures/sentences per book).
