Genuine and working fine
Using this in a Cisco SG500X switch in a data center. The part came with all genuine looking labels and packaging. It was marked SFP-10G-LR-X, which turns out to be an extended temp range part.It took experimentation to figure out how to insert the module and then to insert the cable, since I don't use optical connections that often. To insert the module, flip down the wire bail first. Insert all the way in (if it doesn't go all the way, it's probably upside down), then remove the rubber dust plug and flip the wire bail up. Remove the dust plugs from the yellow optical cable with blue connector and insert into the module until the latch engages. If the latch doesn't engage, the cable is probably upside down.Everything started working immediately.

THIS IS NOT GENUINE CISCO EQUIPMENT
I should have known that you get what you pay for, but picture and text said genuine. When the modules arrived they weren't Cisco. I couldn't find any manufacture name on the units. We put a couple in and tried them and they worked, but they are not Cisco.I contacted the seller and he said that he only promised Cisco compatible, but the text at the time of purchase said genuine Cisco. He offered to discount the price 30% or to refund the price if I returned the merchandise. I was in time crunch so I took the discount. I hope they keep working

expensive optic for long fiber runs
I have 4 of these Cisco fiber transceivers at work for connecting far-flung buildings on our large campus. The "LR" optic is meant for long distances, intended for use over single-mode fiber for extended distance-- not multimode fiber. In our case, the run is about 650m across a campus.Out of our batch of 4 transceivers, one had CRC errors and link power issues until it failed completely a month later (and these came from a Cisco reseller that gets them factory-direct shipped to order). I don't know if the failure rate of LR optics is higher than others, but it's the first SFP or SFP+ that I've had fail (hence dropping my rating to 4 stars).Note that the factory warranty on these is very short (90 days) so you want may to consider Cisco Smartnet extended service. The LRs run kind of hot (warm to the touch even under light use). For fiber runs under 300m, you can use the cheaper LRM or SR optics. The Cisco 10G-LRM is particularly versatile since it can be used on multi-mode and single-mode fiber both (although not over the long distances that LRs can be used). Always check Cisco documentation or with their TAC to make sure you're getting the right kind of optic for you needs, and that it will work on your switch. And of course, SFP support doesn't imply SFP+ support (1Gb vs 10Gb)-- check your docs!(At the time of this writing, the listing gets the fiber specifics wrong, though I've submitted a correction)New retail-packaged LRs are quite pricey compared to the generic "Cisco-compatible" competition, but I prefer to use the Cisco branded parts rather than risk potential incompatibility using a 3rd party device, especially in high-volume high-throughput applications like 10Gb runs across great distance.
