Q: What’s the difference between this phone and the 9508G version?

there is no 9508G version. The 9508 is a digital phone. The 9608 and 9608G are IP phones. 9608 is 10/100 ethernet and 9608G is Gigabit ethernet. Otherwise the 9608 and 9608G are identical.

Q: What do i need to do in order to make this compatible with my current avaya system which has other 9508 phones currently working on it

Requires a “Phone System”

I purchased this phone for my small business because it it compatible with a wireless headset I purchased. The number for customer support was quite difficult to find. When I was finally able to find someone who was willing and able to help me, I was informed that this telephone requires a “phone system” and does not function as a normal telephone. I cannot plug it into my modem or router and I had to send it back. Too complex for standard use.

Don't Buy Avaya Phones.

I hate the Avaya phones. Don't buy these for your office, they do not hold up. That said, the service from this retailer was great! The original purchase of the phones was through Comtech.
