Couple of Issues but hardware works as advertised
I'm going to 5 star this because it works but your level of enjoyment and success will depend on your Linux Foo and script abilities. I bought a $10 monthly Tello SIM card and mounted this on a Pi to hide in my camper in case it ever drove away by itself. One of the first issues I ran into was that when you mount this on a Pi and it is not in range of a wifi network and since a Pi has no Real Time Clock (RTC) it will lose track of time badly. If you try to pull the time from the GPS then that messes with your ability to use the same serial port to have the GPS text its location, at least from the scripts I have been using. I can't code in python so I'm stuck using other people's scripts who obviously didn't have to overcome the scenario I'm working with.I ended up placing the SIM7600 HAT on a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 IO board with a CM4 Pi and the IO board has a Real Time Clock on it.So again, it works, and I got it to do what I wanted to do, but if your Linux Foo is weak you may struggle with this.Waveshare has a great Wiki page for this with installation instructions and sample scripts.
