Is this the same as Vitafibre?

Absolutely NOT like Vitafibre, it's very imporant to know the differences between SCF and IMO! NICKS Syrup are made of 'Soluble Corn Fiber' with documented fiber properties. In contrast to IMO (Isomaltooligosaccharides), the "fibre" ingredient in Vitafibre, which is broken down to glucose by enzymes already in you small intestine, Soluble Corn Fiber pass through undigested, ending up in the large intestine as food for our good gut bacteria. According to EU regulations, fibers are defined as: “Carbohydrate polymers with three or more monomeric units, which are neither digested nor absorbed in the human small intestine.”. Thus, dietary fibers should not significantly elevate blood glucose or insulin and should ferment in the large intestine. Soluble Corn Fiber passes these criteria without remark. However, not all so-called ‘fibers’ do. Isomaltooligosaccharides (IMO “fiber”) being the most striking example. IMO has been found to be broken down into glucose already in the small intestine and so doesn’t classify nor carry the benefits of true fibers. Actually, quite the opposite. IMO has been shown to significantly increase blood sugar levels after ingestion and next to no fermentation in the large intestine has been documented. This is important to consider when buying products containing IMO, such as IMO-fiber syrup. Here some more information regarding 'What is Soluble Corn Fiber' is? As the name suggests, Soluble Corn Fiber (SCF) is a fiber made from corn. Strictly speaking, it is the indigestible fraction obtained after treating corn starch to enzymatic digestion and subsequent filtering. Compared to most other fiber ingredients, SCF shows excellent digestive tolerance, thus reducing the possibility of digestive discomfort. Studies have shown that, in comparison to inulin, SCF is more than twice as well tolerated. Further, SCF is not only a fiber, it is also a prebiotic – meaning it selectively nourishes the good bacteria in the gut microbiota. As such, SCF has shown great potential to lower cholesterol levels and improve blood glucose control if eaten in adequate amounts. Yes it works fine. I found I used it more like a honey substitute.

Could I use this for rum punches??

Hi, I would imagine that you could use this for a rum punch, just remember that with no sugar it’s a bit runner than a normal syrup. Hx
