Leveled and reader-friendly collection of sonatinas
My kids use this series for piano lessons. I grew up playing the piano and my teacher used Sonatina Album (by Koehler) back in the days. I was hoping they would start using Sonatina Album after finishing Faber Sonatina book 2, as lots of pieces are the same and the Sonatina album is just one book while Faber series have multiple books thus cost money. However, my child much prefers this version. The scores in Sonatina Album is printed in much smaller scale to fit more music per page. On the other hand, Faber series have more space (less measures per line and less lines in a page) which makes you having to turn pages frequently, but for kids who are learning to read music, that space help to read more easily.Another advantage of this series for me is that this is well leveled. While pieces in Sonatina album goes up and down in levels that you need a good teacher to tell you which pieces you are ready to play, the progression in this series is not rushed and appropriate, though some pieces are pretty boring and tedious. My older kid started with Book 2, and now starting Book 4 after about 1.5 years, I definitely think she learned a lot from this series. Now due to Covid, my kids regular piano teacher is taking a break and my kids are taking virtual lessons from a teacher who lives in Europe, She uses Sonatina Album (Edition Peters), and we realized there are some differences, mainly small things like fingering and musical notations, there was one difference notes in one measure in book 3. I don't know why Farber series continue to note the same finger when playing the same note multiple times. You can produce better sound out of the instrument more easily when you use different fingers in such situation, so that is the only criticism I have on this series.

Sonatinas are great for fingering practice.
My opinion is that it's more suitable for warm up and fingering practice, but some consider them to be regular pieces to play on. Each to its own...
