Excellent for 'flattening' decals
I am currently constructing an Amati ship model which has a number of applied decals. The shiny surface of the decals provided is very unrealistic and cheapens the appearance of the wooden model which is being finished in a wash-coat of shellac. With some trepidation, I painted the decals over with Tamiya flat clear finish after they were applied to the model. The coating was applied with a small artist brush and resulted in a totally flat, streak-free finish which appeared to be painted directly on the wood. I couldn't be happier with the result and would recomment this product to any other modelers trying to produce a realistic finish.

Another outstanding Tamiya product
This product was easy to use. It layed down on my model airplane very nicely. It really helped in preventing silvering of kit decals.

NICE - BUT BE CAREFUL!
This product works well but requires VERY careful application. If applied too heavily, or not thinned enough, you will end up with a chalky topcoat. I made that mistake (both mistakes, actually) on my first attempt using it. Thought I had destroyed a week of work on my Spitfire. I re-coated the model with gloss (floor polish) then thinned the XF86 with 3 parts thinner and applied it lightly. Two coats gave my model an excellent, even luster that was just what I was looking for. Would have given this 5 stars if Tamiya had provide anything approaching instructions or cautions with the product.

Scale model
Excellent to varnish acrylic paints on scale models. It works very well in my airbrush with no dilution need
