I don't see why it couldn't be painted I have painted all sorts of things and then spray on a clear overcoat to keep the pain on

Q: How big is the opening in the back?

march 2012 the opening is now 3 1/2 x 4 1/4

Q: could i hook up the hose from a pond pump this statue instead of the fill up box that waterfalls into a pond?

It would take some work, but you could do it. There is a square 3 1/2 inch hole in the back that the downspout fits into. You would have to seal that hole around the hose. Or attach a clamp to hold the hose down in the dragon or on the support area where he would sit to hold the hose in position. I am not sure if the little critter would take drilling a screw or hole into it's structure at the back.

Q: Does it fade in the sun?

mine is not in the sun, but after a year it still looks the same
