Requires an average amount of extra effort
Unlike the newer Polar Lights Star Trek kits, this is a re-issue of an older kit from several years ago. While the new Polar Lights kits are usually very well molded and can snap together with almost no glue, this kit uses the same molds from the original run. This is most noticeable on the two saucer halves, which have large bits of plastic waste that need to be carefully removed. If you take the time to trim flash with a knife, use modeling putty to fill gaps, and use extra fine sandpaper to smooth edges, this kit goes together very nicely and relatively quickly. For the scale and price, the ship is nicely detailed, with raised panel lines. The included decals provide an aztecing pattern for the entire hull, and conform nicely to the curves of the kit. For best results, either use a gloss paint of a gloss clear coat before applying decals, and use a decal set solution. Decal placement and painting guides are printed right on the box, similar to other new Polar Lights kits, which saves paper. Despite how it is marketed on the box, this is really not a beginner kit; you need to put in a little bit of extra effort to get excellent results, but most people with some experience building plastic models will not find it challenging.

Well, when I picked out this model, I didn't realize it was a snap together model..

Worst kit I've ever bought
I've had some junk kits before that took too much sanding and filling before. And I've had some that required a lot of cutting with with a hobby knife. But this kit had so much flashing and sprue that I had to use a dremel to remove it. So far it's looking like I'm going to have to use the epoxy putty I use for gluing metal parts together as filler, that or buy some bondo. I've had dirt cheap dollar kits, bulk sets, and "damaged" kits but all of them were better than this.

Good model
I like having the little representation of the Enterprise D that I can put together. The only problem I have is that the pieces don't fully connect without having to be super glued together and this is supposed to be a snap together model.
