Works!
Finally a stud finder that works! This made hanging art work and wood slat walls EASY. It is lightweight but substantial and we found it to be accurate. Big fan of this reasonably-priced tool. For those who say it does not work: Keep the button depressed the entire time you search for studs. Right there in the one page directions provided with the tool.

Best of all the stud finders I've owned!
Are you tired of stud finders that are not accurate, overly complicated, takes forever to calibrate, feels "laggy" when in actual use?Look no further - this does one job and does it well. Find the stud - it does that. The unit uses double A / AA batteries so we all have those on hand (not included). So once loaded.. just press the button and go... The stud is clearly marked where the red lights light up and easy for me to quickly draw a line across the length of whats lit up!.There is ZERO calibration time - press that button and stuff just happens!I've mounted about 11 things so part and had no "misses" to studs so far.Used over 4 other stud finders from Ryobi to the generic brands here on Amazon - all of them have a 2-3 second calibration time and I've had my fair share of "misses" eg where the stud was really so I get that double hole in the wall since I had to shimmy it a half inch over.Totally worth the investment and the plus side is I dont procrastinate on hanging projects as its quick and low friction to get the chore done!

So good I bought two of them!
This is the second one of these I've purchased. My first one was loaned to someone, I forgot who...and never returned. So, I purchased another one. I've used many different stud finders, and really like this one the best. It's dirt simple to use, not terribly flashy, but does a superb job. Shows you the width of the stud, so getting the best bite of whatever you're doing is easy.Again, not a lot of "bells and whistles", but superb at doing what it needs to do. Works great for both wood and metal studs (I've used it on both). I can highly recommend this brand/model, and if I lose this one I'll probably buy another.

Doesn't detect studs behind plywood walls
Batteries: I tried to use rechargeable AA batteries (I've had too many tools spoiled by leaked alkaline batteries), but when I installed fully charged batteries in the tool nothing happened (no lights illuminated as I moved the tool over a sheetrock wall). I then put in fresh alkaline batteries and the tool worked as expected. I tested and the rechargeable batteries only put out 2.8V when installed (which corresponds to the voltage stated on the batteries), which apparently isn't high enough to run the tool (as I recall the instructions say to use fresh AA batteries, probably for this very reason). So, the stud finder works (on sheetrock, see below) when fresh batteries are used.Plywood walls: I wanted to detect the studs behind two different plywood walls (one 5/8" and the other 3/4" plywood) and was hoping the 'deep scan' feature would do this. However, in testing the tool on both walls I found it didn't detect studs behind plywood walls. Even knowing where the studs were located behind the 5/8" plywood wall, the lights just bounced around (if they even came on) and never corresponded to the stud locations. So, it appears the plywood is too dense for the tool to work properly. So, if you're trying to locate studs behind sheetrock you'll probably be please with this product, but not for detecting studs behind more dense wall coverings.

It actually works
Bought a stud finder 20 years ago that was totally inconsistent and finding the stud edge was more guess work than anything. So I bought a new one hoping the tecknology had improved. It was one of those hold the button until it calibrated and slide along the wall. Well no improvement at all, still guessing and very frustrated. So I sent it back and bought this Franklin one at twice the price but IT WORKS. Very quick and easy to use, you locate the center of the stud every time!!!! Couldn't be any happier.

The best stud finder I have ever used!
I was very skeptical when I purchased this, but was pleasantly surprised with how well it works.I purchased this out of desperation. My old Zircon had broken and the new Zircons and Ryobi just don't work. I thought, "What do I have to lose by purchasing a different brand?".This product works amazingly well. It has found studs in empty cavity walls and walls filled with insulation. The only thing that I don't like is that it does not have any indication that it is on. It will only show lit LEDs when it detects something. A power LED would be nice. I almost returned it because I thought it wasn't switched on.It also works with rechargable and regular batteries I use Panasonic Lithium rechargeable batteries in almost all of my battery operated devices. This unit uses two AA batteries.
