Alliance: The Paladin Prophecy Book 2 Paperback – April 28, 2015

I have been recommending this series to friends since I finished the first book. Whoever said this series is a bit like crossing the XMen with Hogwarts is right on. It's not like some of the elements of this type of book have not been done before. However, I've seen no directly copied ideas from similar books like "Ender's Game" or "The Maze Runner" or "The Hunger Games" or "Divergent". I prefer this series to all four of those books. Why? I like the characters better. The protagonists aren't walking around brooding all of the time, or obsessed with their love interests as if it was the last and best romance at the end of the world. Will is not chasing girls; he's out to solve the mysteries, better himself, and rescue those in trouble. Nick makes me laugh out loud, and I'm no teenager. The technology is original, as are the supernatural elements.I don't know what other reviewers are saying, but I'm glad that the first chapter (sometimes a little too obviously, but that's okay) jogs your memory on some of the character and plot points from the first book. It was helpful to me and not overdone.

The story picks up from the first book and moves along at a sprightly pace! The 'set-ups' and new threads are added seamlessly and while the twists and turns are somewhat predictable by the adult reader, the new reader will find it all the more entertaining. The action is good and has a cinematic feel which adds greatly to the fun of the story. The characters are filled out and believable.Mark Frost is an excellent writer and I'm looking forward to the next addition. Here's hoping that the story runs longer than just a trilogy.Note to parents… there is an occult / horror component which is not overly gory but might be frightening for younger readers. I would put this in the mature 12-Up category.

Loved this one as well as much as the first one. You should definitely read the Paladin Prophecy first (it's a thrilling adventure as well). This is a typical middle act in a 3 act saga. Our young heroes end up in a dire position and we're not sure how they'll get out of it in act 3 before the impending major clash. I"m grateful I only just discovered this series. Read the first one yesterday into the late hours (it's always a good sign when I won't stop reading a book until it's done!) and read this one today until I finished it. Thankfully, the third installment is due in a few weeks, so I won't have to wait long.If you like YA fiction, Mark Frost is a wonderful writer who knows how to spin a good yarn with plenty of intrigue and detail.

You know those books that leave you guessing? You have to infer the meaning? At times that can be aggravating but Frost here has done an immaculate job! He slowly builds the story from the start putting in all the necessary points and oddness that soon explain themselves later. One part i love about books is when there's just a little thing. Such as a section where the story focuses on a single character a little to long after the main character leaves the scene. It gives you clues that the character will show itself as a major part later in the story.* SPOILER *In the book there is a section where the Centers barber cuts wills hair during a meeting with Haxley. After will leaves it says that the barber takes wills hair and puts it in a plastic bag then puts it in storage with all the others. Now that I think about it the barber could be working with Elliot and the "other team" by testing the DNA (or supplying it) for signs of the students having awakened (gained their powers). The barber has not yet arisen as a major character in book two. He will probably come out in book 3.* END OF SPOILER *And yes. If you didn't already know there is a book 3.

This was truly a wonderful sequel to the first Paladin Prophecy book. If only it hadn't ended! I had high expectations after reading the first book and Alliance didn't disappoint. This book answered many of my questions involving the first book, but it has left me with a new array of unanswered questions. The betrayal of one of Will's friends was defiantly a plot twist. I had some suspicions from the beginning and I wasn't very surprised by which of Will's friends ends up being the traitor. My wonder now is what will Will do about it, and will he be able to use the betrayal to his advantage. I have some inferences, but I will have to wait for the next book to confirm or disprove them. Hopefully I don't have to wait long!

Another well-written installment in the Paladin Prophecy series. It's engaging and, as with the first book, keeps you guessing while still giving you just enough answers to keep you interested in what's going to happen next. However, unlike the first one, this one isn't as action-packed or fast-moving, and gets lost in the details for a good portion of it. The first half is really a setup for what's going to happen next.Despite that, it's still a great read, and has all the mystery and lovable characters, as well as some new ones that are not so lovable, to look forward to. I won't give anything away, but things get pretty interesting between a few of the characters, which I honestly did not see coming.
