great buy
first of all this is a great fishing pole for the price. i can't give it 5 stars for a few reasons... upon getting the pole there are no instructions. i assume if you are a veteran fisher you know how to put a pole together, but i searched the internet and nowhere was to be found how to assemble this pole. not all fishing poles come in 2 pieces, so this isn't an 'obvious' assembly. thankfully the picture on amazon's website gave enough help how to put the 2 pieces together, so i was able to figure out how to put the 2 pieces together from amazon's website picture. it is also to be noted on the handle there is a small chrome button which needs to be depressed while the handle is pulled outwards in order to extend the handle. the unit will not operate unless this is done. some instructions how to thread the line would also be nice for beginners. it's been decades since i've threaded a fishing pole and i can't say i remember how to do it. at least we have the internet now for beginners like me.after being assembled the pole is extremely good for a compact beginner's fishing pole. it seems a bit flimsy and breakable, and i even saw someone comment exactly what i'm worrying about, how a part of the pole broke. if you are handy with a sottering iron this is definitely the pole for you because you can fix most of the flimsy parts if they break. if you don't want to disassemble it every time, it has a much higher chance of breaking, so don't think this is a rugged fishing pole. it does feel very light for a pole, and i'm eager to try it out on some poor fish. it has everything which is needed to fish, but if you plan to be out for a few hours i suggest more bait and better bait. you tend to lose bait without catching the fish regularly, and there are only 6 non edible gummy bait included.

The first fish caught snapped the rod in half
I purchased this for my 12 year old son. He and his buddies ride their bikes to a local pond, hang out, laugh and have fun catching some fish. I thought the telescopic rod was perfect because he could just put it in his backpack while riding to the pond. The rod and reel looked great out of the box. The reel felt pretty sturdy and smooth when I wound the line onto it. The kit comes with cheap 5 lb. test line, but we didn't use it. We used 12 lb. test line that we already had. It also comes with a canvas-type carrying bag and a small box of various lures and tackle. The first fish my son caught with this rod snapped the rod in half (I will update with a photo of the break in the rod when I get home from work if I can edit this). The photo is my son and the fish that broke the rod. It is a nice sized fish, but it's not big enough to justify a brand new rod snapping in half from catching it. My son had to fight the fish and reel it in with a broken rod! The rod broke close to the middle. It wasn't the telescopic part, it was the actual carbon fiber that snapped in half.It may have been a fluke, I may have just gotten that one that was weak in that area or something, but my son was so thrilled about this rod, and he is devastated that it broke after one single bass.

A Nice Basic Starter Kit
I'm a complete beginner at fishing, so this was my first foray into buying some cheap tackle to try it out. I know so little about fishing that I don't even know if this kit contains everything I need to get started, but it included a nice, light, portable/telescopic rod, what seems like a nice, foldable spinning reel, a real of line (is 100M anywhere near enough?) and a small selection of lures, hooks, etc. All I can offer in this OOTB review is that everything came as billed and was RELATIVELY easy to assemble. My one criticism is that it comes with no instructions on how to install the reel on the rod, and I ended up scratching the carbon fiber pole quite badly trying to mount the reel before I figured out what I THINK is the correct way to do so. Overall, tho, I'm happy at this price and only knock off the one star for not providing an inventory list or instructions.

do not buy this rod
rod is good to carry around. the rod itself is pretty strong but the guides have started to pop off when casting and going with your bait or lure then you have to reel back in fix it and it will happen again after a couple casts. ive only used it maybe six times before this happened. i can fix myself probably but its just a pain. other than that its a very nice rod and i love the reel on it. this is an edit. the day after i posted this review this rod snapped in half showing to be very weak. the only thing i like is the reel. do not buy this rod

very easy to set-up
I bought these for a fishing trip wasn't sure at first if they were going to hold up. We had a great time and with the exception of some reel issues with the fishing line getting tangled. (Note took the reels in to be professionally filled) worked great. Went above my expectations.

very nice compact fishing pole
I was very pleased when I opened my package. I am looking forward to doing some brook fishing fairly soon, the snow is still melting and streams and brooks are running fast. The only issue for me is that I am not an experienced person as far as assembling goes.....with that said I have not figured out how to attach the reel to the pole nor have I figured out how to put the string onto the reel. I was going to go back to the sight and see if there were some instructions and haven't taken the time to to do that yet. With that said the pole is very sturdy and very good quality. I am looking forward to my first experience fishing. I am experienced with ice fishing not so much with brook fishing.
