The Robot Olympics (2) (Tom Swift, Young Inventor)

Readable as a kids book.
Nowhere near as good as the original Tom Swift and Tom Swift, Jr book series were. The plot is fine but it is written much simpler grade level and teaches much less science. However, in fairness, the target audience was reduced from, 10 to 14, to 8 to.12.Although they are very hard to find, I would recommend you try to find the Tom Swift Jr Series by Victor Appleton II.

Far fetched? By a country mile!
I began reading the Tom Swift Jr. stories back in 1960 and have collected every TS book out there starting with the original series circa 1910. Unfortunately, that includes this series - a terrible abuse of the name Tom Swift. The stories are ridiculously unimaginative and the writing (I am an author so I do know a few things about the writing game) is poor at best. Where other TS series seemed to be aimed at 12-18 year olds, this entire series, and this book, seemed aimed at 8 year olds.Evidently, man has become so lazy that we need to have robots do our sports. Tom creates an entry, an enemy tries to make trouble, and Tom wins. Whoopie! The plot line is so thin you can see right through it and the lack of writing skill exhibited is like having an uncomfortably large elephant not just in the room with you, but actually standing on your foot. Grinding down.It isn't any wonder that they stopped after just 6 of this series. There is better fan-written fiction out there than this book and series.

Crazy conflict!
When swift enters the competition for robotics, he never thinks that murder is in progress. I won't tell any new readers the ending however. Great plot, and full of excitement. Best for those that like modern-day books.

Classic books
The writing is for kids, but the new series is a nice update. My 9yo son love the new over the old. I still like the writing in the older series.Would recommend. Not expensive, OK soft cover.

Tom Swift + re-invention = GREAT!
This is a great book in the newly re-invented Tom Swift series. In fact, this would have made a better book #1 and introduction to this new series (some early cover art shows this as #1 in the Young Inventor series.) Tom and his family, friends, and environment are nicely introduced in this story. We have descriptions of the characters and the town of Shopton (which boasts a "Statemeyer Street" and is said to by quite bustling). Another great nod to the original Tom Sift and Tom Swift Jr series is the lobby of Swift enterprises, which holds a museum to Tom's father's early inventions (including the Giant Robot., G-force inverter, triphibian atomicar, etc from the Tom Swift Jr series of the 50's and 60's.) Mr. Swift is married to Mary Nestor, and Tom's little sister is Sandy. I feel these are nice touches to long-time fans of the series. Tom's friends are funky and fun, and they make a well rounded trio for todays readers. Overall, a great book, with books #1 and #2 a perfect introduction to the new Tom Swift, Young Inventor series!

Not the Tom Swift I remember and not written for anyone over about 12
I so do not like this extremely limited and very juvenile series. I love the character of Tom Swift but whoever authorized this publisher to use the name and in such a disrespecting way, annoys me.This isn't even a novel. It is, at best a novella coming in at maybe 17,000 words or so. It also appears to be written to appeal to 9-11 year olds without any consideration for older readers who have fond memories of Tom Swift.I found this in an "Any Book ¢25" sale at my library and bought it.It wasn't a complete waste. I did read it cover to cover (in one early-to-bed evening) and can now claim that I've tried this series (I think it was officially the 5th series) and can now ignore it. I did not give it 1 star because I can see that a young reader might find the lack of action non-confusing.

Aventuras para toda la familia
Excelente serie de aventuras desde principios del siglo XX. Para toda la familia y en especial para jóvenes. Claro que los libros están en inglés. Una buena opción para practicar el idioma.
