Are these actually safe to use w/ existing old ballast...or should the ballast be removed?

According to Philips, there is no need to remove the ballast. I didn't, and the bulbs are so far working fine. I've had them about 1 month.

I installed one of these and it makes a humming noise. Is that normal?

It should not hum...switch the bulbs around and see if that helps

1 bulb works, add another to the fixture, and brightness goes to 1/2 - remove 1 bulb, and remaining one flickers. let cool and the 1 bulb only works.

Could be your ballistic is bad for going bad
