Great BB Gun
This is my FIRST ever BB pistol. After a lengthy search I picked the 5501. I feel I picked well and really enjoy shooting and have gotten quite good at 20 yds. Gun sighting is pretty accurate and had to adjust slightly up for best hits. Since I've never fired ANY gun in my life the blowback works but I have no way to judge how accurate it is to a real weapon. On to the packaging... Box looked like it was open, the plastic was ripped off the cardboard backing and the gun and contents were loose rattling all over the box with just a couple of bubble bags as protection (Inspection?) Gun seems fine but just wanted to mention because it seems to have happened to other purchasers and other brands as well. (redesign?) Good first choice. U P D A T E: After about 250 shots I thought the gun was jamming but it turns out after each shot it decocks and you have to cock the barrel AGAIN basically turning into a single shot. After re-reading the negative reviews it seems that it is the knock on this gun and more common than I wanted to believe and hit or miss on getting one that will actually keep shooting after some use. Pissed is a word I'm feeling and since I CAN'T return to Amazon I'll most likely have to pay shipping back/forth to Daisy to get a $60 item repaired. What a scam. UPDATE 6/12/20: I contacted Daisy around 2am explaining my problem and asking for advise on how to refund or replace gun. and was waiting on a reply. In the meantime after trying a few more misfire shots, the CO2 cartridge was empty. Still in a pissed of mood I popped in another CO2 cart and low and behold gun works as it should. Later in the afternoon I get my reply from Paula at Daisy. They where going to replace my gun free of charge! I informed her that the gun is now working as it should so I would keep the one I had. She then offered to send me the O-rings for that model in case I needed them in the future. To me that is taking care of the customer and class customer service. I have raised my rating back to 5 stars. I hope my experience helps anyone that might have trouble with misfires, might as simple a fix as your CO2 is low! Did for me

Soda cans beware
Pictured: Daisy 5501 (bottom), my CCW: M&P40c (top), Crossman Vigilante (right) I bought this during the Coronavirus ammo panic to get some handgun practice in and it's served me extremely well. I've put about 15 CO2 cartridges and about 1000 BB's through it without any signs of wear or breakage. It does have a decent amount of power - enough to send a spam can flipping - and the blowback is strong and satisfying with enough force to make you reaquire your sight picture. The attached grouping was shot standing off-hand at 8 paces against an 8" target. The sights are a nice, readable front white dot and blacked out rear. My basement's lighting is crappy right now so I'd prefer a fiber optic front but this still works and is closer to my carry gun anyway. You can see them side-by-side in the first picture; the sight radius is nearly the same. There are 2 notable weaknesses: the CO2 puncturing pin and the BB clip. Using Crossman 12g cartridges I'm barely able to puncture a canister with the final twist of the setting screw. This is pretty surprising as the canister is a really tight fit in the compact-length grip. I put pellgun oil on top of every canister before loading and this seems to keep CO2 loss during this dubious process to a minimum and keeps guts of the gun running smoothly. Attached is a picture of the spent cartridges, which seem more dimpled than punctured. The gun still works perfectly despite this. The clip is the biggest cause of grief - it caused every failure I've experienced. There's a hole near the base designed to allow hand feeding and there is no mechanism to prevent the BBs from coming out of it once loaded. This can happen before or after loading the clip into the gun - the former sending BBs flying around the room, the latter causing a failure to feed. Simple fix: don't fully stack the BBs, only load 14. The clips are also a bit flimsy to get in the gun; your usual mag slap won't help and more likely just hurt your hand against the CO2 setting screw. Instead you'll have to delicately press it in with two fingers searching for the elusive "click." This gets easier with practice. I highly recommend extra clips and a speed loader to keep your interactions with the clips to a minimum because the rest of the gun is really great. I can easily burn a slow quarantine hour with this thing and I'm already showing improvements with my carry gun in drawing and acquiring my sight picture. For the money I don't think you can beat this as a gbb training pistol / casual plinker. It may not be a replica of a real pistol, but if you're buying this to shoot stuff instead of LARPing you'll quickly forgive its appearance.

IMPRESSIVE - FOR ONE DAY
When I first received the Daisy Powerline 5501, I found it to be rather impressive in terms of its overall appearance. Had a pretty realistic feel to it as well. I wish my first impression would have been a lasting one, but after running through the first several magazine loads, it started to misfire. I noticed that the seal around the CO2 cartridge had popped out of position, so I gently pushed it back in, thinking that the problem was solved. However, not only did the misfires continue, but, just as has been written in many other reviews, the semi-auto feature failed repeatedly. The result being that I had to pull the slide back after every shot or two, in order for it to fire. I could understand if this was an isolated issue. However, based on the number of times this problem is mentioned in other reviews, it appears to be a known issue, and I consider it to be unacceptable for Daisy to continue to manufacture and sell a product that apparently has a recurrent operating defect. I have no issue with Amazon as the seller, whose policy is such that returns must be addressed to Daisy. Not wanting to waste any more time or thought, I simply placed it in the garbage where it belongs. I then ordered a Umarex Beretta M92 A1, and, so far, at least, I am extremely satisfied with its build quality and functionality. Too bad, because I always liked the Daisy lever action rifle that I had decades ago. Still have it, in fact. But it looks like that will be the last Daisy product I will own.

Mixed bag
Paid full price and received someone’s opened return. And reviewers are correct, AMAZON DOES NOT accept returns on this item! You need to ship it back to Daisy. This gun is nicely constructed and stamped “Made in Japan”, but the design itself has its drawbacks. Accuracy is mediocre and I cannot get it to fire in semi-auto mode. The BB magazine is rather flimsy. Some users state it becomes more accurate with use, but I’m wondering why that would be. As stated, it is solid and finished rather nicely, but so is a Mercedes Benz. And one would take it back to the dealer if it drove like a Ford Pinto. The bottom line...all flash and no substance.
