Wow! Great underdog story!
This was one of the best underdog stories of all times. The film is based on the true story of a 50 to 1 shot in horse racing. I think the footage of race in the film was the actual footage of the race. The actual race is unbelievable in the end result. After watching the movie I had to watch the actual race three times just to see the unbelievable result! Would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who likes to see an underdog prevail. Notice I did not mention the horse’s name or the actual race because that would give out too much information. Thus, I would recommend watching the movie to get the whole story. You will not regret it!

well done horse racing movie
I liked the relationships in this movie. It had decency and integrity and of course a will he or won't he horse race. Nicely done!

Good movie
I enjoyed the movie however knowing the Wooley's it was a bit of a stretch, Chip is 6'3" and Bill is 5'8" and they made no mention of Wilden the younger brother. They portrayed Chip as a bit of a clown when it comes to training, he was anything but that. It also seems like Baffert forgot where he came from, but that is literary license.

Wanted to like it more, but unfortunate acting and screen play
Great story. I liked some of the actors. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but "it" just wasn't there. I almost didn't make it through the movie. The screen play, for what is a true story (of course, they always add fictional stuff to make it work), was stilted. Just didn't flow. Joke lines or delivery fell flat. Bottom line: It was just a bit short of boring. Maybe it was casting issues, e.g. the blond female trainer/rider really didn't seem to fit the part at all. The tension between her and the lead (or co-lead) felt entirely staged, inserted to create false drama. There were quite a few pieces of the movie that just seemed inserted as filler. No idea how much of the script reflected actual events.

1 to 50 On That Day
Enjoyed this film. The script on a scale of 1 to 10 is about a 7 to 7.5 which is ok but I would have preferred some of the debauchery left out as well as Baffert's reference to God, "I don't believe he would win even if he had God riding for him". Just part of the script for effect I imagine because I don't believe Baffert is really that way? (Such an irony that the horse Bird beat that day, Pioneer of the Nile, is the sire of this years winner American Pharoah who is on his way to Belmont with at least a chance at winning the Triple.) The acting is good for the most part, Borel was great. The real gem in this work is the actual race footage, simply one of the most exciting derby performances on film, from a bird's eye view watching the Bird thread the needle in full stride under a precision ride by a jockey who is one of this country's best. That alone makes this film worth viewing and owning. Also, the ecstatic joy of winning this race, one of the biggest all year, is well captured. The script writers did well here. The film closes beautifully with Borel's rose toss, actual footage. I would probably score this film a little closer to a 4.5, but that is not an option. Have fun viewers, enjoy the race......Bird on that day ran like he was 1 to 50 instead of the opposite. Did you know he was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame a few years ago?
