A must have and read it all at least once oracle book
A must have. Read it all - bypassed admin stuff as im more interested in developing and this book really opens up all oracle internals and how higher level stuff gets implemented ..learn that those v$ views really are implemented via x$ that read oracle internal ram data structure - not that we will use x$ but was great to understand from ground up what an oracle instance does when loading up, lots of knowledge being shared about all things oracle uses to support its run time lovely book a must.. i would say 50% about oracle architecture insights and remaing 40% usefull developer lots of hints and usefull sql.. with 10% +/- just lots of reference tables in the end of book. Book also does good job explaining how to monitor via both admin console as well the sql that web admin tools use themselfs ..at least a more then good sql ..one will collect and learn a lot about common oracle views that help with lots of scenarios questions.. indexes also explained very well with all type of indexes, best use of each type.. concepts like index fragmentation etc lovely book and a must have.

Very Useful, But Needs Improvement
I'll start with the good: The book is very comprehensive, and it's evident that the author put a great deal of effort into writing it. A few of the chapters, individually, are worth the price of the book.Unfortunately, the book is also filled with outdated advice, and statements I had considered flat-out wrong or at the very least ostensible. I actually kept track of these statements but eventually gave up because the list was growing too long; I bought the book to learn more about Oracle performance tuning, not to be a technical editor for it.In the end, I would recommend this book be used to strengthen your performance tuning knowledge. Use it to supplement the excellent documentation that Oracle makes available free of charge (including the Performance Tuning Guide).

Rich is the Oracle master
I found this book very useful as it is direct, and points many ways of doing a tuning in a query, server, database or application code, even when it is a third party app for example. Rich Niemiec knows a way to teach that you learn easily and fast, and in a very productive manner. He gives real life examples and shows you the code for eeverything. It really is a must have DBA book, if you take Oracle for serious and want to take the most of your database.

Comprehensive tuning guide.
Great book for DBA and developers as performance tuning reference. I can say it is fundamental on every topic but it is great in wide view on many topics associated with the performance tuning.

Excelente

Applying changes to 11G
The Oracle database versions have changed as much that you need a concise reference for the exact use to to put the database too. Getting more from your software and hardware you need tune the two elements to cooperate and help you make the most of your investment. This book does precisely that and helps you not fall into old habits from previous versions of the software.
