New York Deco

The succinct review
To put it simply, beautiful photographs capturing the essence of NYC Art Deco, complemented by descriptions and vivid image-provoking quotes. A must-buy for any fan. The day I received it I read every word and even took notes for my upcoming NYC trip... Take note of the smaller, approx. 6x6 in. size of this book, it is not the typical coffee-table book size. My only complaint would be that it is not larger. Highly recommended and a great bargain.

I love this book!
It has beautiful pictures of the “crowns” of these Art Deco buildings. The quotations give you a feeling of the time when they were built. The reasonable size of the book allows you to dive right in and enjoy whereas a big coffee table book can sometimes seem like a chore with its size and weight.

Not a category-killer on Art Deco, but nicely focused instead!
If you ever visited New York City and took an interest in those old remnant of a bygone age to be found in the buildings of Manhattan, then this book is for you! there's more to Art Deco than this book covers (graphic art, illustration, fashion, etc.), but it's nicely focused on the one part of it all I am interested in. If there's room to quibble here, it's that it's a rather SMALL book, when you really want something more fully coffee-table sized. And, a bit pricey as a result of its smallness. But, all in all, quite satisfactory!

Architectural images.
This is a good book for viewing architectural elements and sculptural images. It is mainly a picturial book with few words. It does not describe the rules or the fundamental design approaches that define the art deco style if you are looking for that type of educational experience. This 159 page, 8" x 8", book has some nice Art Deco examples for viewing. I would recommend this to those seeking an idea of an arcthitectural expressions.

Great work by a knowledgeable photographer
Berenholtz was trained, licensed, experienced and successful as an architect before he chose to concentrate on photography. It shows in this wonderful book, which is filled with artfully framed and technically refined photographs. What sets it apart is the concise storytelling and descriptions of style, locations and history-- knowledge that brings more depth to the work. If a skilled author always "writes what he knows", here is a photographer who "shoots what he knows". The book is a bargain.

Magnificent View of a great design age
The author has searched out and magnificently photographed the great specimens of the art deco school of design. Famous are the Chrysler building, the Empire State Building, and Radio City Music Hall, but there are dozens more lesser known gems in this great compendium. We liked it so much we bought a second copy as a gift for a friend.

Great photography
Bought as a gift but I had to leaf through it first. Great photos and the accompanying text is a good addition. A cool coffee table book to have for any lover of Deco, NYC, or architecture in general

This is a lovely coffee table book with excellent color photographs
This is a lovely coffee table book with excellent color photographs. Art Deco lends itself well to this sort of treatment as there were no particularly outstanding primar donnas of the style. The style was meant to be highly visual and lacking in subtlety. Thus, photography such as this serves as an excellent medium for conveying the content of the style.
