HUGE. Fresh water for weeks. Don't want to pay so much extra for better color.
I WANTED this in peacock blue but DIDN'T want to pay an additional $11 extra dollars for what? ?Color? Nah. (Even though it WOULD match our blue litter box) So silver gray it is. This is SUPER huge. I mean four gallons, it would have to be, right? l thought Amazon had overpackaged when the huge box arrived. Nope. It all seems sturdy. No cheap plastic. It IS super easy to assemble and clean when refilling. Other reviewers cited the 'filter strap' being difficult. I have pain and numbness in both hands, no nails to manipulate with and it wasn't difficult. ...And I maybe don't change the filter from the first one. I did not have any unpredictable spills - Not that I didn't spill... The bottom (gray) piece is actually two pieces, and they were not quite clicked together....Water splashed through an opening I wasn't aware of, between pieces, at first. And, like with my dog's last gravity waterer, I filled the bowl before I "flip and plant" the filled bottle into the bowl. This prolonged time between needing to fill the waterer again. Also I found this prevented "losing" a lot of water to the bowl that l just spent time putting into the bottle. THAT might be the best method with this product! I have read reviews citing "gushing" water when bottles are planted into empty bowls....so maybe at least put some water in the bowl. Plus with this product....that bowl holds a lot of water, like, a LARGE storage quantity itself without the bottle. the 'big gulp' of water dishes. The bottle then needs to turn to click/lock into dish. Had to learn that. Or the bottle is slightly...off. Not a problem with water flow. But that instinct of: "is that.. off?" Indeed it is my friend. I think there is a definite learning curve to using such a large waterer successfully. But my family is SUPER phobic of water spills (after our fridge water ruined our entire kitchen. Then that plumber left a bathtub running, ruining our bathroom as well) Basically we have PTSD if we see water spills or hear water running. So if we can handle this sitting in our rebuilt kitchen, anyone can! I can not speak to 'freshness'. I don't drink from it. The four leggeds don't mind. The reason we BOUGHT this is we adopted a indoor cat in addition to our dog. And it is DRY where we live. When this arrived and was unassembled, we actually put the cat INTO the gray dish(sorry no photo). Judge all you want, it was adorable.... And freakin' roomy! Anyhow. Water bowl itself holds a lot of water. Then there's the sturdy clear bottle. It all buys you a lot of time between chores, err.. piece of mind that my fur babies will have water. BUT since it holds so much you can go a LONG time without messing with it. There is a certain ick factor when (again) in our arrid climate dust, fur, or cat litter collect in the bowl. this doesn't bother the pets, just me. So I refill/clean/reset the whole thing just to clean the bowl before my beasts need more water. Yes, I have small creatures. this is more than I need for them. Better than having less than I need! And OBVIOUSLY this amount of water, four gallons, weights a lot. Frail people need not apply. Or maybe just use it as an excuse to make people visit you to fill the water bottle. I'll update if theres major change with the product. UPDATE: Product still going strong. Kitten is a cat, still fits in the gray dish. Went from waterer next to litter box to cat tree between them and waterer against wall. Less crap collects in water and cat REALLY enjoys the huge bowl. She will splay over the water like its going places. Other times she sits down dipping her paws in to lick water off her paws to drink. ..not sure if THAT is how she drinks water, or is just a game. This thing is half water dish half swimming pool. And its too sturdy for a cat or my #14 dog to tip over. Makes my cat love water. That is what l? care about.

Works awesome! No leaks, easy to fill up (SEE PRODUCT HACK INSIDE WITH PICTURE)
I should've bought one of these ages ago. Not sure why some folks say they can't fill it out without dousing themselves with water.. when it's getting low, you take it over to the sink. Slowly turn it on its side so the water in the bowl empties out, and flip it over. Rotate the now-upside down bowl to take it off. Flip the jug over, rinse it out, fill it up, set it to the side. Wash out the bowl real good. Put the jug back in the sink. Attach and turn the bowl (it's still upside down, mind you). Then, I just carry it over, upside down, to its final destination .. flip it over real quick and set it down. Never have any issues. You could certainly flip it back over, over the sink.. but I haven't had to do that at all. The ONLY downside to this entire thing, and it's not a product design thing at all, is that if your pets take a long time to drain it down then that is (necessarily) a long time between cleanings of the bowl. So make your own rule... maybe empty/clean it when it's only half-way depleted if you want. This water unit.. combined with the PetSafe automatic feeder.. the cats could theoretically survive alone for 6+ weeks even if the power to the house went out. NOTE: I would never do that, I'm just saying : - ) UPDATE Jan 21 2018 - - reducing from 5 stars to 3, but buying another one ! Hadn't read any of the reviews that said to NOT put the tank into the dishwasher.. and I put the 1-gallon tank (minus the black screw/filter component) into the dishwasher. The tank melted/warped. See picture. Luckily, it still "sort of" fits on, but I feel a leak is imminent. After looking at reviews of other gravity water feeders, however, i'm still buying another one (2.5 gallons this time) of these because of the low price. The base is dishwasher safe, but not the tank - - I don't see this mentioned anywhere in the product manual. If your dishwasher can do a medium/low temperature, then give it a whirl, but not with the normal/regular wash setting. It's still worth it, though. UPDATE October 5 2018 Back up to 5 stars ! After buying the 2.5 gallon version, I notice that the water sits very very low in the basin, which allows dust/hair/food to linger at the surface of the water. So, I drilled three small holes into the side of the black plastic cap piece about mid-way down, and now the water level comes up much higher in the basin (SEE PICTURE SHOWING ONE OF THE HOLES). The surface of the water stays a lot cleaner for a lot longer now, and the cats (both of which are fairly small) don't have to dip their entire heads into the bowl to drink.

Very Happy. Was worried about size.
This ended up being a good choice and I'm quite happy. The price is great for what I got- the 4 gallon version with microban. Crazy good deal. The issue (and why I took the time to write this) with these is I found it really hard to tell what bowl size you need for your dog. In regards to the drinking bowl area- not the tank. I have a large/medium size dog about 75 pounds. He's medium/large with an Xlarge massive bulldozer for a head and only slobbers when he drinks. The slobber thankfully ends up in the bowl, but requires me to clean it very often- as you should. Better than the floor thankfully. Previously I had a high rated electric fountain but that ended up being a bigger hassle than it was worth. So I needed a large drinking area to accommodate his big dome head and the tank was a good way to be able to dump the slobber water and have it refill as well as if something crazy happened and we live in a hot area in summer he would have water for quite awhile until someone could come check on him. So I went with a big one. Little did I know how large the tank would be. It's freaking huge. He might drink this much water in a month. Maybe. His little dog best friend could fit in it comfortably. It's so much water I could fill it and feel like I've got water for myself for earthquake preparation. But I fill it 1/4 of the way usually. A sparkletts drinking water tank is 5 gallons, and I should have thought of that in regards to size. The microban is great- I wipe it down about every 2 weeks and there has been no mold or otherwise on the bowl which before was an issue with other bowls. The tank has a nice feature that wasn't clear when I purchased: the microban I thought was how the plastic was made with an anti microbial which it seems that's the case but it also refers to a filter attached to the bottom of the tank where it flows into the bowl. So not only does this stop the slobber and food bits from getting into the fresh water tank, it makes it easy to dump the dirty bowl water out, spray it with the kitchen faucet and let it refill so it helps keep everything clean. This is a bit of a chore only because it's heavy when filled due to size. But totally worth it. The tank has also shown no mold growth. Would recommend if you don't mind a large drinking bowl with a large tank in your place.

Perfect for Single Dogs, Wish I’d Gone Bigger!
I absolutely love this gravity waterer! It works exactly as advertised - keeps fresh water available all day without any fuss. The quality is great and my dogs took to it immediately. My only regret? I should have bought the 3-gallon version for my two dogs. The 1-gallon is perfect for a single dog, but with two pups, I’m refilling more often than I’d like. Lesson learned - size up if you have multiple pets! Overall, fantastic product that I’d definitely recommend. Just make sure you get the right size for your pack!

Missing lid
Great product and easy to clean but I didn't receive all the parts which makes it almost useless (I used suran wrap as the lid and then stabbed it once it was mounted on the base). And their customer support will tell you to write them during business hours while its business hours. But other then that its probably the best way to keep your animals hydrated for an extended period of time.

An Easy-To-Clean Water Dispenser
The reason I bought it, and why I like it, is because it has a wide mouth opening on the water bottle. This allows me to easily and thoroughly clean the bottle every week. It takes a few minutes. Additionally, if you like filtration, it has an activated charcoal filter at the bottom which is extremely easy to take out, clean, or replace. Also, you can remove it if you don't want it. Usually you can use the activated charcoal filters for a long time, and they can be re-charged by boiling them for a few minutes in the microwave. On top of the highly functional design, it is inexpensive. I wish it was stainless steel, but I can live with the way it is. That's it, but if you are interested, I have more comments in support of this type of water dispenser for cats, which you can read below (or not). The biggest problems I have had is to keep the water fresh in the dispenser for a week at a time, and to get a through cleaning at the end of the week. I also do not need a large sized container because that just wastes water for the one cat, or even two. The usual dispensers of the type we are discussing here have a very narrow mouth. It is practically impossible to get a through cleaning. Gunk builds up on the sides and near the mouth; it can't be good for your cat. I had even more buildup with the battery powered fountain type of dispensers. Here the bowl is easy to clean, because it is not a narrow neck bottle. It takes me about 45 minutes to clean the two of the battery powered fountains every week because the buildup in in the tubes and narrow places. On top of that, it is not a fun job. My cat is also ambivalent about the fountain vs the regular bowl. When the power goes out for a day or two, you have to use an alternate. I have decided that the powered water dispenser, as good as it sounds, is actually not a good thing because it cannot keep the water fresh. With the one we are talking about here, you can change the water every day if you want - it takes no more time than it takes to get a glass of water for yourself.
