A smart filament bulb...
There are plenty of less expensive smart bulbs out there, but I've bought four of these bulbs so far because they are filament (edison style) bulbs. I have three light fixtures outside my house that have clear glass enclosures and the bulbs look great! It's a little tricky to get them to connect to the wi-fi for the initial setup. Some of the bulbs required me to reset them by turning the light switch on and off slowly 5 times until the bulb blinks and is ready for programming. You do have to leave your light switch turned on for the bulbs to be controlled through the app, which is great. Once setup is complete, the app allows you to control the brightness of each bulb. This was important to me because the dimmer the bulb gets allows you to see that it has the appearance of an edison / filament bulb without blinding you. It also showcases the beauty of my light fixtures. I needed a little outdoor light - not a beacon - so I keep the bulbs set at about 25% brightness. Also, the app allows you to create custom timers for when each light turns on and off. The lights run on the same Kasa home app as other Kasa products. I also have the Kasa smart wi-fi enabled outdoor plug that I use for my seasonal holiday lights (Easter, Halloween / Fall, and Christmas), which is controlled through the same app as the bulbs.

Great lights, especially for outdoor lamps!
I am very particular about my lightbulbs, and these impress me. They have 600 lumens output which is calculated to be equivalent to a 48W standard bulb. This is a little less than a 60W incandescent bulb (which is about 800 lumens), but most people wouldn't notice. I took off one star because the bulbs are not very bright in a lamp with a shade. Having said that, they work great for outdoor lanterns where the bulb is visible through glass, and they are also great for indoor lights where the bulb is visible. I just bought new bulbs for new lamps, but I have had a KL50 bulb in 3 outside wall lanterns for 3 years now and have had no problems with any of the bulbs, which is quite remarkable! Outside at night, they are bright enough that I have even dimmed these lights from the full power with the app. I keep the wall switch on (I even taped in in the "on" position), and have the bulbs set on a schedule to turn on at sunset and turn off 30 min before sunrise. The Kasa app is great in that it is able to exercise this schedule and synchronize the bulbs across my house perfectly. Must simpler than wiring in a switch. Incidentally, if the switch is accidentally turned off, obviously the bulbs will turn off, but more importantly, when the switch is again powered, the bulbs will turn back on to their previous intensity and schedule. Also, due to the app, they maintain their schedule after recovering any type of power outage (which is not necessarily true for some switches that require a neutral wire).

It worked well, while it worked. Connect it to a guest/separate network.
The Kasa Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb, Soft White 2700K lasted 8 months in a fixture on our garden shed. It was probably on for a total of 3-4,000 hours before it failed, so a fraction of the promised 15,000 hours. It worked well, while it worked. I found the app well-designed and useful, after a short learning curve. The only wifi problems I had were due to issues with my own network. The bulb was particularly useful in this specific location, near our shed and our driveway, so I'll just buy another one and hope for better luck next time. But it's not just the money to replace the bulb, it's more the time. I thought I was set for a while, that's one of the big selling points of LED bulbs.A few comments:- The switch for the light, if there is one, should be on all the time. The light is controlled via the app.- If you have a schedule that changes with the seasons (such as, turn on at sunset and off at sunrise), it only works properly if the bulb can connect to wifi from time to time to update the times.- You can't program a schedule into the light in one fixture and then move it, because when it loses power it doesn't know what time it is any longer.- For security, I'd suggest connecting these devices only to your guest network or a separate network, not your primary home network.

Works well when it comes checked and working.
Got a defective one initially, i guess second hand through amazon, spent 6 hours dealing with amazon customer support. Got hung up on and was made to feel stupid. Amazon finally credited me. remember to record your calls to customer support people and state your problem clearly and if they don’t resolve ask for a supervisor.About the light. Works well with alexa and even though i thought the setup was a pain i would buy this again. Just not through amazon. Im trying to suck back all the money i have spent on them over the years. I hate that i got the echo dot for under 10 bucks, because i want to toss that b out the window for the sins of her maker.

Another "Hit" from Kasa
These folks used to be TP-Link, so they're well grounded in the home automation market. We have installed Kasa switches, bulbs, and outlets throughout an old farmhouse and barn (note, wiring in old houses can be challenging - hence the appeal of Kasa where you can use plug-in devices and smart bulbs vs wiring) - and LOVE it. Pairs nicely with Google (our voice commander). The on-phone instructions are very good (useful tip: if it fails to pair, that's generally on you - i.e., you start out with the network paired with Kasa, and then have to switch to your WiFi network - alas, this isn't automatic, which is due to the WiFi, not Kasa), and these folks were clever enough to have any updated firmware download at the same time as you're pairing. HIGHLY recommended, love their stuff!
