Amazon Basics Professional Self-Adjusting Wire Strippers and Crimper Tool, Black/Red

Finally in my 78 years, bought this ....... fabulous to have. Looks a tad delicate. I'm not in the business more often than a project every few months . . . . . this saves so much TIME and stress. ...working on putting in LED bulbs for example on a restored EZGO golf cart. If needed for every day use by a pro' ..... might not stand up forever, but a GREAT tool otherwise.

Finally got these dedicated strippers. Not real rugged but they work flawlessly. Now I need to get to work and use them more.

I have used every function these strippers have to offer and I'm really happy with it. My one gripe is that it seems to slip on some wires which requires me to hold the gripping jaw closed with my free hand. This design allows you to strip wires quickly, and the guide allows you to quickly set the depth. I do worry about the quality of the red adjustable stopper because it's plastic and sometimes it gets in the way. That can be resolved by unlocking it and extending it outwards. A few times, a piece of insulation gets stuck in the inner workings and stops it from functioning, but you can tip it over and the loose piece will fall out. Otherwise, the build quality feels great. It's sturdy and the handle design that includes various sized crimpers has proven to be handy. I can't attest to the longevity of the blades, but I'm sure they'll last a while.

Normally I’ve had good luck with Amazon basics items but this is an absolute stinker. It really should be pulled from the marketplace.The first time I put it to use I was instantly frustrated. Maybe one in every five squeezes resulted in an effective strip of romex interior wire shielding. I thought to myself surely it must just needed adjustment or I’m doing something wrong so I came back to the internet to look up IFUs or adjustment tips. NOPE - wasn’t me - just a POS.What I gleaned was that there is a sweet spot that works better than others on the “blades” but ain’t nobody got time for that- I bought this tool to speed up jobs not make me slow down and find a sweet spot.I’ve initiated a return but it was so frustrating that I felt I owed it to others to write a review.Bottom line: Some tools you can save your money and buy the lower cost alternatives- this is not one of those tools.

Packaging OK, stripped 18 and 20 gauge speaker wire just fine, the adjustment as one reviewer put. It is very flimsy being all plastic but if you’re not moving around a lot, it should last a while. The adjuster is plastic with bumps on it as stops, so I imagine the more you move it around the bumps will wear out and it won’t have positive stops Anymore. The diagonal cutters are what really failed, if you look at the one picture you’ll see it cut 90% through but I still had to get a knife out to finish it every time. If you look at the other picture, you’ll see the light gap where they don’t close and meet fully. Unfortunately I’ll be returning these for a pair of Klein brand for the same price, I trust their name, a little better than this one.

It clamps down harder than a toddler holding onto their favorite toy, but don’t get your hopes up—it won’t strip anything. Just mangled the poor wire like it was trying to shred a salad.And let’s talk about crimping! You’d think I was trying to convince a cat to take a bath. I’ve had more success crimping with a pair of salad tongs. I crimped so many bad connectors that I’m surprised I didn’t end up on a watchlist for crimping crimes. I think I invented a new art form: “Abstract Crimping.”I even roped in my electrician brother for backup. Watching him struggle with this tool was like watching a master chef trying to use a spoon to fillet a fish. He ended up shaking his head in disbelief, muttering something about how this should come with a warning label: "Caution: May cause extreme emotional distress."Do yourself a favor—skip the frustration and invest in a tool that actually works. Because this tool will turn your simple project into an epic saga of frustration!
