A very interesting start to a series.
I liked this book very much, the story was fast paced with hints of a well thought out backstory to all the characters. The text was well written with no noticeable grammatical or spelling errors(a wonderful exception for indie authors). I liked the main character very much. And the wuxia/cultivation elements are well done. There is even a hint of dungeon core possibilities brought about by the nature of some of the supporting characters. I will look forward to a sequel. The only 2 minor critiques I have are; first that the main character is a bit too blasé with the dramatic changes his life takes in a very short period of time. It can be reasonably explained if you examine the hints of the main characters back story and early life conditioning.. And let’s face it, most of us who read a cultivation style novel are happy to jump into the action and have the protagonist start advancing immediately instead of whining about what has happened to them. And second, the author uses slightly more formal language than you normally find. It fits with the characters, but it took about 5 to 10 % of the book to sink into the dialogue and stop noticing the differences in how the characters talked. Again, not something unexpected or unique in the genre. Neither of these points take away from this being a very fun and enjoyable read.

4 Nature of Madmen Stars
First Orbit is the first book in the Soulship series by Nathan Thompson. This book is so deliciously consuming. Only and infinitesimal small step from being an unavoidable five stars. Nova, Vessa, Lunei, and more. This terribly confusing and complicated wom(e)n of massively more intricate webs and bottomless potential.Jasper's parents teachings, the mysterious Glorious State, and unspeakable destruction of the once great library that was Earth. I wonder what profound power earthlings traded for the lack of cultivation. I feel it must have something to do with possessing the entirety of the night sky's knowledge. An even greater inexplicable draw, Jas' parents teachings, and conversations, and glimpses of some great conspiracy they alone guarded against. This hidden facet of the plot is so blindingly intriguing all on its lonesome.Lunei one of the Shining Maidens of the Sparkling Sky Sect on planet Likwon. I wonder how long until we meet her again. Or even rather, discover whether her sect as well holds such vaunted morality in high regard. If there are perhaps others taken in by the brutality of the likes of the Glorious Star Charter hide in their midst. And of course, as with any Sci-Fi world yet to be even minutely explored, I am most thrilled to discover more and more creatures and species yet unknown to me.

Stick with it.
This is a review for the series (four books so far) and my advice is to stick with this series. It can be confusing in places. One of the main characters is multiple person/one entity character and it can lead to confusing dialogue where both the book and the reader have to think for a moment to realize exactly who’s talking. Also, this has one of the most complicated systems of magic that I have seen - three different “practices” with multiple stages, all with very different terminology. Sometimes, you can get confused in the details.Having said all that, stick with it. The story is worthwhile - certainly worth a little confusion up front. The characters are flawed, though powerful - some of their biggest challenges are the battles within - kind of like life. You will come to really root for them, though they can be frustrating. The author has really put together a creative universe here, worth spending some time with. It has a lot of action and a lot of introspection. No sex so far - but clear love on the way.Definitely worth a try. I read a lot on Kindle Unlimited, but buy less than 10% of the books I read. I have bought this series, and find its a series I can read and reread.

Fantastic space cultivation
The world changed completely when the Glorious State took over the entire world. Sweeping changes left Jasper an orphan living on the streets after his parents were executed. When a nightmare out of forbidden stories captured his only friend, Jasper’s entire life changes in a moment. This is the sci fi cultivation story. It was a really fun change of pace as I have been reading mostly fantasy based stories. There is a very interesting path that cultivators can take depending on the three different types of Source. The characters have been well developed and are believable. I know this is space based, but I’m hoping to hear more about Earth as the story progresses.Content warning: None

A really very good read
I truly enjoyed this book. I like the character development and the flow of the story. It is easy to become vested in the story and I am looking forward to the next one.

Sci-fi & Cultivation have at it!
Great book that manages to combine two separate Genres into a world that totally makes sense once you think about it. Loved the fact that there is all this rich history just waiting to be discovered from the characters to the worlds & civilizations seen as we get bits and pieces here and there but never enough to fill you up or drown you on facts.Lets not forget that the author managed to make a MC who isn't overpowered but not weak, has actual background that accounts for how he acts, and leaves things just mysterious enough to keep you guessing. It makes for a refreshing change in these cultivation-type books as he isn't guided by over-emotional outbursts but still has enough attachment to be the Knight in shining armor for those he comes to care for. Plus, we aren't treated to a montage of near-endless training so it certainly is a plus in my book. Can't wait to see how he develops in the future and what his unique circumstances will lead him to.Whatever comes next, know this will definitely be a series I keep an eye out for!

Great start to a brilliant series.
Soul Ship brings the heart Nathan is so good ar injecting into his stories. SS is easily one of the better progression novels out there. With the Mc being smart and resolute.

la acción no para
Prácticamente me he leído el libro de una sola vez. La acción es constante y el mundo que construye muy interesante. No se para mucho en ninguna parte pero todo sigue fluyendo y siendo conexo. Una grata sorpresa.

The world building is strange but funny
It is strange mix of fantasy and Science fiction and I am not completely convinced of the plot, but the result is readable, characters are well depicted and interact with a good dynamic.

Could be beter.
It reads like a walkthru of a computergame; find 3 items to advance to the next level, then repeat. That being said, i've read it to the end just to see how the story and the characters would end up, so there is something there.
