good cat scratcher, but pricey
If you're a cat owner you know that there can be a lot of variability between cats. That being said I've found most cats like to scratch this layered cardboard style scratcher, where the pieces are glued together leaving the fluting exposed. There are a lot of different types out there and this particular one is favored by my cat and unfortunately it's not found in grocery stores or even large chain pet stores. This being the one thing my cat will scratch, and since she is very good about not scratching anything else, we make it a point to get this couch style scratcher for her and don't settle for anything different for fear of her one day becoming like a normal cat and tearing everything in the house with a corner to shreds...One other reviewer said it's rough but i've not found it to be any different from other similar products out there. These things will last as long as kitty doesn't shred them down to nothing. The adhesive that holds the layers together is very durable, we've had these for a year without issue.4 stars is accurate for the overall value. I dock this one star for price considering it's simply cardboard that has been cut with a die and glued together. It should be $15 tops.ps picture is accurate to size, the cat in the picture is on the small-mediumish side. there should be plenty of room for kitty to lay down if he's about average in size.oh one more thing, since your cat will probably prefer to use a certain area of the scratcher more frequently, be sure to turn it. When it gets really shredded on the top side, don't forget that you can actually turn this upside down to get a little more life out of it before replacing! Don't forget to send this to the recycle bin when finished to save mother earth.

Cute little lounge but has some flaws...
I have two cats, both claw everything....except scratching posts. They have only had a scratching post once or twice before because they wouldn't ever touch them, but I decided since they are older now they might enjoy a little place they can scratch freely. This little cat-scratch lounge I got is so cute. Granted though, it doesn't look quite like the picture... my lounge doesn't have cute little legs it stands up on, just a flat bottom, that is why I look off the one star. Sure it doesn't really effect the outcome of the product but, it is misleading. Also, I feel there can be a simple solution to avoid cat nip going through the lounge completely. Kind of a design flaw in my opinion, but I wont hold it against the product. Cats make a mess anyway so why would I care if some cat nip fell through the lounge and onto my carpet? The cats love the cat nip that comes complimentary with the lounge might I add. I sprinkled a bunch onto the lounge to entice my cats to scratch it. Only one of the two cats ended up using it for its intended purpose and the other one just kind of sits around it... she's not that bright though anyway. So, this was a half success.

Scratcher Saves My Floors
I purchased this scratcher thinking my cat would use it as both a seat and for scratching. I also thought it was cute. Turns out my cat wasn't interested at all in sitting on the sofa, but he does use it for scratching. Currently I keep it in front of his food and water bowls because he likes to "bury" his food. With his freshly sharpened claws and my hardwood floors, I was not thrilled with his "burial" attempts. In an effort to prevent him from doing so, I placed the sofa scratcher in front of the bowls. He was a bit confused for a week or so, but now he uses it in lieu of any food burying urges. I'm pretty sure that makes him a cat genius, and my hardwood floors are very grateful.Cons: it is a bit bulkier than I anticipated and my cat does not actually sit on it.Pros: it has saved my floors and totally eliminated food burying behavior.Overall an attractive product, but for my purposes, any generic rectangular scratcher would probably suffice.

good stuff
We have more than one Imperial Cat scratcher & 3 of our 4 cats use this sofa style and seem to enjoy lounging on it. The cardboard IS very tough & almost too "sharp" in its edges -- feels sharp to my skin anyway but the cats go for the softer edges and work their way in from there. One cat tends to eat the cardboard esp the decorative front part but he;s done this with other cardboard items too. Just what he does. (--: I can move this around from room to room, upstairs or down, as needed & the cats like to "find" it in the new placements. Indoor cats need to be kept entertained. Adding catnip or a piece of tissue paper to it enhances its use & it is tough enough to be vacuumed if you need to clean it. It's a bit over priced hence the 4 stars. 12 out of 16 "paws up" for this item.

Wonderful product
This scratcher style cat sofa is the perfect thing for my cat, who is an indoor/outdoor cat and has all of his claws. Frost is a very gentle cat and rarely sharpens his claws inside but I really like my furniture so I was looking for a way to move that "rarely" to "never". He absolutely loves this bed and it's stood up for several months (it'll need replacing after Christmas). Frost is a 30 pound Maine Coon cat and the heavy corrugated cardboard is perfect for his level of scratching. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is because it's slightly too small for my giant boy, although that doesn't seem to bother him. The scratcher is durable, attractive and effective.

Who likes scratched furniture? Not me either. So this works.
You do have to train your cat to scratch here. It's innate afterwards that this place is where he should scratch - also catnip helps.

small
I should have probably checked the size on this before buying, very small. I'm still waiting to see if either cat will use it. As for the catnip, cats loved it, however if you choose to sprinkle it on the "couch" do so with something under it, as it goes right through and all over everything, much to the delight of the cats. I'll reserve judgement on its effectiveness on keeping my new sofa from being shredded until I see the results. Since writing this review I have decided to return this item as it just doesn't interest my cats, and quite frankly it is cheap looking. I received another one that is very nice and less money with carpet and scratching material much better looking and less money, I'll be buying another one of those.
