The Devil and John Holmes-25th Anniversary Author's Edition: And Other True Stories of Drugs, Porn and Murder Review: Fast read - Fast read, good book Review: Just a collection of long-form magazine articles - I have always been fascinated with John Holmes and not just for the obvious reason. He was a freakshow character, the same way Andre the Giant was in professional wrestling. Mike Sager is a decent author, but I would really like to read an in-depth, well-researched biography about Holmes. As described, this focuses primarily on the Wonderland Murders portion of his life, with some interesting biographical information sprinkled in. He was mostly a washed-up, pathetic loser by that stage. The rest of the stories in the book are interesting, but tangentially related only in the context of drugs and porn. They feel like they belong in another book. The book should probably be called "The Writings of Mike Sager" and leave Holmes out of the title. I am glad I bought a used copy for next to nothing.

Interesting to say the least
I went down the rabbit hole for this book after listening about John Holmes from the Morbid Podcast. Being a true crime junkie this is like nothing I have ever read before. Interesting to say the least. I learned a lot about the "Porn Lifestyle". Little more about porn than I wanted or cared to know. I understand that it is all part of their stories.

Dates seem incorrect
I found this very confusing; the author jumps around. The best book on this legend is by his girlfriend Dawn "A walk through Wonderland surviving John holmes." I'd recommend his Autobiography, but most of that is just him bragging. Thanks for reading my review

Excellent. Fun. Instructive. Tragic.

This particular book, superbly written and researched, is everything that the diligent reader has come to expect from Mike Sager. At times tense and taut and at others intensely lyrical, I got far from it at a second reading than I did the first time round, which is an accolade for any book. Superb.

Book was ok but if you are interested in this crime then I suggest Malice in Wonderland- far superior book by the detectives on the case

Not well written, stories are all over the place jumping around and not really connecting which makes it hard work and ultimately tedious to read.
