The Pictures! The Writing! The BEST!
The pictures are HILARIOUS and throughout the entire book. It would be worth it for those alone. But turns out - the writing is excellent too! A fantastic book that all cat lovers will treasure.

Opulent book of hiss-torical knowledge!
If you enjoy brief vignettes of history featuring cats, you’ll get a kick outta this feline version of hiss-torical events, as narrated by Baba, a learned feline who models the styles of every era (while narrating a cat-centric version of human endeavors). This whole thing is tongue-in-cheek AND beautifully illustrated, while managing to get the actual history told. Baba gives an amusing and observant version of human history, especially honoring all important figures who appreciated cats, such as Muhammad, assorted Vikings and monks, kings and queens of many lands, artists and writers, farmers, and other hardworking people. Baba does not shy away from feline distress, such as the influential people who declared cats to be evil. This is a terrific little book that enlightens as it entertains.

A delight for cat and history lovers
This book is a delightful romp through real history as it involved the role of cats. These mischievous and lovable critters have been with us since the dawn of time... silently guarding the grain stores and clearing our streets of rats, mice, and other rodents. The book describes the ups and downs of cat-life through history. The narrator's voice is the cat who speaks with animal wisdom and droll humor, interrupted occasionally by a question from its human person.A sweet read!

Wonderful book
This is a great book with lots of interesting information and wonderful illustrations. However, be warned that it goes into some of the unpleasant history of what people have done to cats, so it's definitely not for children or anyone squeamish. I found it fascinating, but some of it was tough to read.

History as lived and shaped by felines
Great praise is heaped upon historians that through their research have enabled other voices to be heard. By other voices we mean those not belonging to the standard self glorifying winning sides, or dominant classes in each historical period. What we have here is the ultimate history told by its most legitimate raconteur, in her own voice. Baba, the cat, brings us this thoroughly researched history, in a beautifully presented book, spanning the ages as lived and shaped by felines. The narration is dictated in a friendly pedagogical way, albeit at times, not surprisingly for a cat, a slightly condescending tone percolates. Baba is more than a historian, and the book includes a wonderful series of photographs showcasing her versatility as a model. Some of us humans are lucky to have been chosen by cats to share their lives, and will love this book. Others, not yet so lucky, would do well reading this eye-opening book.

5 Stars
Should this be five stars? Eh, probably not. There are a fair few flaws (extremely western, calls America/the American West "empty") but still? I loved it.Now, it seems like a cute, silly little gift book, and it mostly is (I love Baba's outfits). But there are quite a few heartbreaking stories inside (I will NEVER forgive Ernest Shackleton. He can get in the sea. Justice for Mrs Chippy!) So be careful when you choose to read it (I had to have snuggles with my own babies, and even that didn't really help. I mean it. Some of the stories are REALLY awful, because humans are awful. But if you're able to stomach the horrible stories, this book brings a lot of joy, too. There are so many lovely stories of cats and their humans, and I love the photos that were included. It's also not as grating as you might expect, being told from Baba's point of view.So...yeah.
