Denix Revolver
This is a very good replica gun. It's heavy, it looks and feels real, and it's fully functional (but obviously non-firing). For those who want their guns to remain in pristine condition, though, I would not take advantage of it's functionality, as sometimes the hammer hits the wrong part of the cylinder, and this scrapes up the hammer. Also, the repeated rotation of the cylinder may scratch the front of it. Of course, it gives it more of a used look, so if that is what you are looking for, then do whatever, I guess.Overall, this is a great replica that I would recommend to any collector of firearm replicas.

For the price, it's as good as you can get.
I have owned two Denix replicas before, the Italian Percussion Pistol and the Pirate Flintlock. This is my first Denix revolver, and there are obvious differences.I'll order this by immediate impressions to the "aftertaste" of this piece.1. As soon as I opened the box the gun whooshed a horrible gun oil smell into my nostrils. I love that they oiled the entire gun before shipping, but unless they expect the buyer to regularly oil it - it is a waste of oil.2. The loading lever was bent as I examined the gun. Now this could have happened during shipping but I am unsure. I looked at the box and it had a tear where the loading lever could have got caught if it wasn't completely locked into it's notch. Or a careless packager just shoved it in the box, because I could not fit the gun back into the box without putting the loading lever through that tear.3. This piece of metal actually presses lead into the cylinder. I know because I attempted it. I now have a lead cylinder stuck in the chamber - which I take responsibility for. This isn't a criticism, just telling how 1:1 this is to the real M1861.Now for the "aftertaste."1. The ratchet that revolves the cylinder is brittle beyond repair. I pulled the hammer twice, and then gently set the hammer back on the nipple. I went for a third time and the cylinder did not revolve. If you buy this, do not dry fire it. Once is enough to break it.2. The thin finish on the gun is very easily scratched. I was practicing quickdraws, which my leather holster scratched off a long strip of the coating.3. If you've ever handled a LeMat, you know that the loading lever on it is weak if offset. Well, the loading lever on this is only held on by an unfastened pin. Mine fell out two days after recieving the gun. I found it, but it have broken in two halves.Overall the gun itself is hefty, solid metal. The reason I've given it 4/5 of stars is because it is my first Denix revolver. It's a lot better than I thought it would be considering the price and the replicated model of the original M1861.

Beautiful, solid, definitely would recommend.
Beautiful reproduction. I'm not a gun aficionado at all, I simply bought this as a display piece due to my love of the show Hell on Wheels and so I can scare away Jehovah's Witnesses. From what I can tell, it looks and feels accurate. Solidly made, heavy, gorgeous piece, shipped very quickly, no complaints at all. The front sight is very slightly crooked, but I couldn't care less. I'll definitely buy from Denix again.

Everyone loves it!
This prop gun is very fun for all of my friends to fiddle around with while we hang out. It's got a nice stand with it and it simply looks great, too!

Ok for the price. Don't expect too much.
I was a bit surprised by the packaging. The gun is 5+ pounds of metal, but was encased in a flimsy Denix box. It came out of the inner box during shipment, so I opened the outer box and was greeted by a gun half hanging out of the Denix box.The gun looks ok, but is missing a few fine details. For example, the hammer isn't grooved with rear sight mark that the originals had. So it's a replica without any working sights, per se.Also, the gun had a bit of grease on the joints. That's fine, but during transit it rolled all around and coated the brass with a layer of what appeared to be dirt. I was able to wipe it down and the brass doesn't look too terrible.Last note on the packaging: the box is generic and doesn't say the model number or anything. And the only insert was a small brochure for more of the Denix products. I guess Denix doesn't provide a lot of extraneous paper. But a card with historical info would have been cool.Regarding the build quality. It's ok for the price. The gun has great heft and helps drive home the point that metallurgy wasn't as advanced back then. The body has a very small wiggle where the steel joins the brass. And the cylinder shakes as well.I'm confident that I can break the ram rod clip and trigger. It's probably best not to mess with it. And after less than 10 times cocking the hammer, the cylinder has stopped rotating! :(Still, the gun is pretty cheap, so I'm not expecting world-class. And I think Denix might be the only folks manufacturing these kinds of replicas, unless you buy a firing black powder pistol at $450+. So I'm fine with it as a very cool paperweight that allows me to regale visitors with old west history tidbits. :)

History in Hand
For those, like myself who have a love of history and the artifacts that go with it, but may not be ready to invest the thousands of dollars for actual historically preserved real deals, or maybe you love history, but not a huge lover of guns to drive you to purchase a real live fire ready replica, this model is ideal. The weight, size and feel is accurate and the owner can display right next to that civil war book collection or on top of that coffe table book of the old west without the fear of firing mishaps.
