FAST and QUIET
What a great offering from Toshiba, priced at the competition, and outdoes them. This drive is whisper quiet, and boasts great performance at the same time. Below are the benchmarks for the freshly formatted drive, and all I can say is that they give me good reason to continue being a returning customer.-----------------------------------------------------------------------CrystalDiskMark 5.2.0 x64 (UWP) (C) 2007-2016 hiyohiyo Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/-----------------------------------------------------------------------* MB/s = 1,000,000 bytes/s [SATA/600 = 600,000,000 bytes/s]* KB = 1000 bytes, KiB = 1024 bytes Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 210.986 MB/s Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 199.725 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1.354 MB/s [ 330.6 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1.455 MB/s [ 355.2 IOPS] Sequential Read (T= 1) : 210.954 MB/s Sequential Write (T= 1) : 193.586 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 0.648 MB/s [ 158.2 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 1.405 MB/s [ 343.0 IOPS] Test : 1024 MiB [D: 0.0% (0.2/931.4 GiB)] (x5) [Interval=5 sec] Date : 2016/12/28 15:08:43 OS : Windows 10 [10.0 Build 14393] (x64)

DirecTV DVR storage extender
Purchased this drive for additional storage on our DirecTV DVR HR54 receiver via esata. It was a new install so what happens if you hook up the external drive it disables the internal drive on the receiver. Since the DVR came with only a 1TB drive I wanted to double it before we started recording on the internal hard drive, 2TB doubled our storage capacity and it ended up making the menus and guide load quicker than the internal drive, go figure. I read that people were having a hard time getting hard drives that were compatible with DirecTV DVR receivers. I'm also using a Thermaltake hard drive dock using esata not usb 3.0. I found that this combo to work flawlessly together.Toshiba makes excellent drives, I expect to get many years from it.

Best Price For Performance
I have bought about 5 of these drives now over a span of about 2 years. Every time I build a new computer for someone I spend dozens of hours doing research on what will be the most cost effective and best performance for the money. And every time for the past 2 years based on benchmarks the Toshiba P300 3TB model has always been one of the fastest drives for a reasonable price. Yeah there are some faster drives out there with the same 7200 RPM and same amount of buffer cache, but they're $20-30 more expensive. How I decide which HDD I buy is that I look at the RPM, Transfer Speeds, and then the Price. The RPM gives you a baseline to understand how fast the transfers speeds will be. Then you want to look at actual benchmarks to get a more precise number on how fast the transfer speeds are. Then look at the price... you shouldn't be paying more than $30 a TB if you are buying a HDD that has 2 TB or more. This drive at $75 base price plus tax is only about $81, which is only $27... which makes it basically a steal at this point. While I can't testify for their durability since I have only had them for about 2 years... since most HDD drives die around 4-5 years of continuous usage, I can say first hand that they are pretty fast and will maintain high sustain read and write speeds even when transferring large amounts of data. I have tested this a few times when transferring my steam game library that is about 400 GBs back forth. The only other thing I have to note is I think these drives are pretty noisy compared to other drives... it might just due to the fact that they are 3 TB drives since I only have older 1 TB 7200 RPM drives to use as a reference under load.

HOT - concerned for longevity
Great price for the capacity, and spindle speed. After checking the reviews and specs, I took a flier on this rather than the usual choices of Seagate, Western Digital or HGST, trying to save a few bucks. I recall back at the inception of the PC industry, Toshiba made THE BEST 2.5" drives, so I was optimistic i would not get 'burned' by this purchase.I used this to replace a < 1 year old Seagate 2TB FireCuda Gaming SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive) - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Hard Drive (ST2000DX002) I was disappointed with using on my main rig, and it actually has a marked performance improvement over the old drive. Shorter load times for windows, programs, files than the hybrid drive (My old and new 1TB Seagate hybrids are still much faster than the 2TB maybe due to the same size 8GB SSD on the larger drive).Crystal disk marks topped 153 mb/s on both read and write performance besting my Seagate hybrid in every measure, however somewhat slower than I had hoped.Drive is *ever so slightly* noisier than the Seagate was but still quiet. Doesn't have much of a vibration whatsoever.Biggest beef is this baby gets H O T. I used CloneZilla to image the 2TB over via ORICO External Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5" and 3.5" HDD/SSD, SATA to USB 3.0, Supports up to 8TB Drives for ~ 1.5 hours and when it was done the Toshiba that was in open air was too hot to hold (to put in chassis in place of Seagate) - let it sit off for 4 minutes and 20 seconds after which I used my Etekcity Lasergrip 774 Non-contact Digital Laser Infrared Thermometer Temperature Gun -58℉~ 716℉ (-50℃ ~ 380℃), Yellow and Black read 112 on the top, 114 on sides where i was holding, 116F on the bottom side. Seagate (source) after same operation was only 104 F at its hottest point, immediately after shutting it off (< 30 seconds). As an 21 year IT veteran this is of concern - modern 7200RPM hard drives usually don't get this hot, even 10 and 15K SAS drives usually stay under these ranges during operation (granted with better forced ventilation). I will keep my eye out for thermal related issues with this drive.I installed the drive anyways as it sits right next to the front chassis fan, however my RX 480 will now have higher temp air blowing over it - and effects chassis ambient air temp sensor by 1-2 degrees Fahrenheit under load over the previous configuration. It accomplished the task of faster 2TB drive for cheap, but I will be backing this up on the regular, just in case.

Trusted brand and reasonable price
Was afraid till getting it delivered whether it gets damaged on its way. But packing was good. Delivered it few days before expected date. No problems faced till now. Delivers good speeds and 1863GB usable space. Mostly silent when reading or writing data. My first impression for this product is excellent. I will update this review after one month of usage.
