Really great book!
I immediately was intrigued when I saw the title of this book and the visual on the cover. As I am currently going through my own weight loss and fitness journey at nearly 50 years of age this was an incredible book to read. Knowing that it is possible to get to goal weight, the stronger and live a life that is sustainably healthy is such an encouragement! I highly recommend this book for anyone who is on their own journey and just needs a word of encouragement along the way!

Ok. Not as inspirational as I’d hoped.
I like to read stories about people who have overcome struggles with obesity, trauma, injury, illness, etc. I find them inspiring. This one was OK but I couldn’t relate to the author very well. I am happy for her success but to me she was a little obsessive. I’ve lost a lot of weight and have kept it off, but I find the mindset of excessive counting and measuring combined with “exercising off” calories to be a very slippery slope. Meaning, there is a very fine line between this behavior and a full blown eating disorder - just in the other direction. As someone who has veered off into this territory - from emotional over eating to emotionally deprived eating behaviors, I can tell you that it’s not a very enjoyable way to live over the long haul, because it’s all about fear - especially fear of losing control.I’ve found a way to keep my weight off without punishing myself with exercise and excessive deprivation while also still eating a varied diet that I truly enjoy and exercising in ways that bring me both challenge and joy. It has helped me tremendously. It’s about learning how to love, nurture, and trust yourself. It’s also about not letting food/eating (or the control of it) take over your life. There’s so much more to life. Maybe someday I’ll write about it.I believe there is a way to keep weight down without developing a fear of food, very strict food rituals, and obsessive exercising - but I didn’t find that here. I found a familiar story of diet culture taking over a person’s life and the person seemingly succeeding but still very fearful of enjoying food and socializing around food. It was always about the number on the scale - and that scale had the power to ruin the author’s day/mindset. No hate and no shame here, it’s just not for me - and it might be triggering to others who are trying to both love themselves and reduce unwanted weight and destructive eating patterns.

interesting quick read
I’ve read many different weight loss books this one made sense. Like the fact that she does not suggest a meal plan but tells you to eat what you like.

simple and truthful
Basically she tells her story of how she lost weight. The good the bad and the uncomfortable of her weight loss journey. Sometimes the truth does hurt but anyone that really wants to know what they need to do to lose and maintain their losses will get a few tips from reading her story. Most often tout cutting back in calories without mentioning the exercise or even mental component of losing weight. If you don’t have all three of these you won’t maintain your weight loss. And finally be grateful for what you have accomplished so far. So what if you didn’t lose all the weight you wanted to by a certain date, but you still lost weight. Look at the positive. It is better than where you were before. Trying to lose 10 lbs and only accomplishing 8 lbs lost is still great. Don’t fall for the all or nothing mantra and derail yourself. You can do it. You just have to want to do it for yourself and be consistent.

She's Walked the Walk
I found MS Odom to be genuine and honest with her readers. She did not sugar coat her weight loss journey but did offer a clear message to those looking to make a life style change.

An Easy read filled with real life advice
I liked this book because I could easily relate to the author's struggle. So many books about weight loss focus on the science, or the foods, etc. I want to hear about the mental struggles people work thru to achieve their weight loss and this book delivered that. I could never walk as much as she did due to having a bum hip, but it made me focus more on exercise as a key component of losing weight and keeping it off for life. I am back on my elliptical and doing strength training 3x per week.

Explains everything I couldn't understand before reading the book
I have been struggling to understand how I became overweight. I try to eat healthy, but I'm turning 60 this year, my body isn't the same anymore. My question was, can I do anything about it? I love way everything is explained, there isn't a magic pill. The day-to-day journal showing me what Sharon did to succeed, the real life ups and downs she went through. her milestones can become my own milestones. I have never met Sharon before, but I thank her for sharing her story. I know I can use the wisdom she shared in my own life throughout my own journey of weight loss.
