The BEST bag I have EVER purchased!
Update: I thought I'd post a more recent update of this bag - it's September 2016 and this bag is STILL going strong!! I ended up having my husband sew some patterned cloth across the front flap in a wide horizontal bar (to cover where the ripped-out USMC patches used to be; lost my moto, lol); I punched decorative rivets along the bottom edge of the flap; and I have a collection of pins and buttons on the flap - all for personalization and decoration. An inconsequential inner seam or two has popped, but it has not obstructed the functionality of the bag or the water resistance (the decorations haven't damaged the water resistance, either). All the hardware is still in excellent condition and all straps and loops are still as sturdy as the day it arrived. I still absolutely love this amazing little bag. It has been through SO much with me and it is really comforting knowing that I can get through an unexpected rainstorm without everything in my bag getting rained on (I'm not an umbrella kind of girl; I'm a dance-in-the-rain kind of girl). I would buy from this manufacturer again in a heartbeat and I would buy this bag again, ten times over!! Also, an unexpected bonus was that my husband is not bothered by occasionally having to wear my "purse" because it really looks gender-neutral, and he likes the pin of Bender (from Futurama) that I put on it. Original 2011 review: I absolutely LOVE this bag! I love the colour and the canvas feel. I also love the durability and the fact that it is waterproof. (well, probably more water-resistant because I wouldn't recommend submerging it) It is constantly surprising me with how much I can put in it - on a normal day, I pack my nook, a 16 oz water bottle, my planner, keys, tissues, gum, a snack bar, and my wallet and still have plenty of room to spare! (It has been known to carry binders and my lunch with ease, sometimes groceries, and on Sundays my Bible fits perfectly in the back pocket.) I am constantly getting compliments on it (from military personnel and civilians alike) and many, many people have asked me where I got it. One of my husband's recruiters loved it (and honestly might have "tactically aquired" it if it wasn't my purse) and has actually been the only person to this date to know that it was a military map bag, even though I plaster Marine Corps pins and patches all over it. I haven't had any issues with the rings or tabs connecting the shoulder strap, and the strap itself adjusts with ease. The snaps have stayed in place even when I have overloaded the bag. I have decorative pins in the canvas of the cover flap and they can be inserted and removed without any damage to the canvas fibers or waterproof qualities of the canvas. I left the side flaps intact as I like how it adds extra water protection; you just have to fold them in a little before closing the front flap otherwise they can look a little strange. The only drawback of the bag is that pens do not fit comfortably into the little elastic slots on the front inside of the bag, so I don't use them and consider them decoration.

Just right!
This is now my favorite field bag. Lightweight, simple, comfortable, and big but not too big. Toss random items in, and they're all in easy reach when you want them again. With the way the strap attaches towards the back instead of at the corners, it hangs nicely at the hip and opens easily while you're wearing it. The images shown for the "olive drab" color on the listing look almost forest green, and I almost bought the brown instead. But I'm happy that the real color (see attached picture) is much more of a greenish brown, which is perfect. One of the other reviewers complained about a strong chemical odor, which concerned me. But there is no bad smell from mine at all. I'll update this post if I have problems with quality, but so far this seems like an awesome bag at a great price.

Roomy, well put together
Very nicely made, I like it. The only thing I could fault is the snaps take a little "oomph" to close, but it that means they hold a bit better, not a problem.

A well-made, durable, inexpensive carry-all
Perfect for cruise or day trip. The larger pocket holds my tablet, a bottle of water, sun glasses, with room left over. The smaller pocket is perfect for my passport and phone. For everyday use, my tablet, lunch and small handgun fit nicely. I like the backboard that keeps it sturdy. Well-made, durable, comfortable.

Good, usable case.
A good sized usable case. Canvas is medium weight. Stitching is good but as to its durability only time will tell. Good layout and functionality.

High Quality, Durable Bag for literally ANYTHING!!
I’ve bought a handful of these bags over the years, starting when I was a kid as part of an Indiana Jones costume. I’ve always loved the utility of these bags, though, and this one I have now makes a perfect Dog Walking bag. I have it hanging right by the door; I’ve got a couple different kinds of my good boy’s treats in here, a tug toy, a roll of extra poop bags (just in case)… It makes me feel like he and I are ready for an adventure. And we are! I love these bags and any excuse to carry one. It’s one of MANY Rothco canvas utility bags I have. I’ve got the huge Paratrooper bags, the small canvas duffle, the WWII Alice knapsack, the versatile mechanic’s bag… I love them all!

Not great, not terrible
Overall I do really like this bag. It is plain and simple looking, love the divider and it's the perfect size. Ijust received it and it had some loose threads but nothing major so far. My biggest issue was with the one strap clip, it was on the opposite side initially. After manipulating it with my hands it went to the other side to close securely but stayed off to one side and would readily flip back to the other side again, not having a secure closure. I finally wrestled with it and a pair of pliers and now it stays as it should. The bag does have a weird smell but it's not very strong and will likely go away with use.

Great sketching bag
This will fit even a large sketchbook and many brushes and painting supplies. The stiff board in the back is great support for your sketch book. The canvas is good quality. It is well made with tough pen slots. It feels and looks rugged.
