Came with information leaflet. It is a plug and play unit. I have to download the application as indicated on the leaflet. Worked great. I like it. I do recommend it for programmers who needs to usb to serial cable.

This unit worked perfectly right out of the box for my PIMPx ECU. It has the correct prolific chipset, so there is no need for searching the web for fixes or patches that I have had to do with the Sabrent version. If you have a PIMPx and are tired of dealing with the connection errors, etc., then this is the one you want. Maker sure to uninstall all of the previous drivers and restart before installing the new driver from their website.

Easily one of the most compatible serial to usb adapter cables you can buy. If you want to know that the cable is good 99.99 percent of the time this is the one to buy.

Had an old one from a different manufacturer and was having a ton of issues finding a driver that works with today's computers. Got tired of looking and decided to just order this one and it worked right out of the box. Zero issues.

I have been using several of these adapters quite successfully for several months, but then I upgraded one of my PCs to Windows 11, and the adapter no longer works. In device manager there is a message saying "Please install corresponding PL2303 driver to support Windows 11 and further OS." I have searched, there does not appear to be such a driver available!

These have been my goto option for RS-232 connectivity for a number of years. I have used dozens of these with much success on Windows, Linux, Mac and FreeBSD over the years. On the Windows platform, the driver in included with the operating system from Windows 7 and beyond, so they “just work” on anything you’re likely to use it with today. I am NOT a paid reviewer or been given freebies. I am just a customer trying to help others. I hope my review helps you make an informed purchasing decision!

It is plug and play,and it works very well. The only bad thing is it generates alot of RFI in the 100 to 300 mhz range. I use it to allow my tablet to control the frequency of two radios, when I am using the amateur radio satellites. I have to listen on 145 -146 mhz. Go up on 445-446 mhz. I am working on shielding them to reduce the noise they create, the signals from the satellites are weak. Sometimes I can't hear them due to the RFI created. Tony

This is a solid USB to serial adapter. Fair price for the quality, length and sturdiness. Uses common prolific chipset which Windows should install automatically. Overall connectivity is good, useful for a variety of tasks from console access to networking equipment to downloading data from PAT testers. Not sure on total speed however serial is limited to 900kbps.

I work in Information Technology relating to power management and infrastructure. As such manage tens of millions of APC ATS, UPS, PDU, etc. Updating UPS Firmware is something that must be done to address bugs, security, feature enhancements for these systems. APC / Schneider like almost everyone in the industry continue to use the ancient RS-232 serial connector vs USB?!?! To add insult to injury every RS-232 Serial port on the UPS is NOT wired to the RS-232 standard nor is the provided serial cable! You’re also very hard pressed to have a RS-232 Serial Port on any laptop / computer system in 2025! As such the need to have an adapter like the one in this review is essential if you want to safely & securely connect and interface to a APC UPS via USB. All I can say is once the correct drivers are installed for whatever operating system in use will absolutely work. Which by the way I should call out this is also one of the few adaptors that support Windows, Linux, MAC OS etc. There are endless products that either only support a limited version of Windows OS or no Linux, Debian, BSD, support etc. Star Tech has been my / our product vendor for decades for many accessories and products because it just works! Solid product that will absolutely work in converting any APC UPS RS-232 RJ50 Serial cable to USB.
