GX-8 Gore-Tex Side Zip

I was in the market for motorcycle boots since I had grown tired of using my old race boots for my cruiser. They had great protection but were not very comfortable to use while walking around the office. Read as much input as I could on the Bates boots and it seemed to hit all the criteria I wanted. I've summarized a few points that I felt was important to me. Durability - I was initially worried that the toe area would wear down quickly over time with shifting on a motorcycle. So far, I'm pleasantly surprised that they are holding up and not leaving too many markings on the top of the shoe. Protection - I haven't taken a fall in these so take what i say with a grain of salt, but they seem sturdy. The heel and toe seem to be semi rigid to provide some protection in an accident. It's nice that there is some abrasion-resistant fabric mixed in as well and thicker than I expected around the ankle. It's not going to be on par with my old race boots but I am not riding insanely fast either so it works for my usage. Comfort - Fantastic for comfortable compared to my old race boot since it's not as highly rigid. It actually feels like I have nice hiking boots. I can wear these all day and still feel okay. Additionally, I can feel the shifter so much better with these. It's really nice to have the side zip feature as well as it was one of the main selling points to me since I thought it was very convenient to have on my old boots. One negative for me is that I find it somewhat tight to take on and off, but it's not bad enough where I would take off a star. Overall, I am pretty happy with the purchase and would recommend it to all riders looking for a comfortable boot that packs a lot of features. Given that I have only worn these a couple of weeks, I reserve the right to change the rating later if I feel like the quality and value is no longer there.

I bought my first pair of these about 5 years ago when I started working in EMS. They lasted me about 2.5 to 3 years. The quality was great then and still great now. They are light and comfortable while still giving you enough ankle support. The slip resistant sole is great on wet rock, oily cement, and even sheets of black ice. The Gore-Tex keeps your feet perfectly dry in water nearly to the top of the boot. I have tried 5.11 boots comparable to these Bates and the comfort and quality was severely lacking. The 5.11’s only lasted about half as long as these. I will never buy a different boot again.

These waterproof Bates boots are the best pair of Bates boots I have ever owned. I was skeptical at first because I was used to buying the more expensive models but these cheaper ones definitely outperform the higher priced ones. They are light, true to size, and so comfortable right out of the box. I work 10 hour shifts on my feet all day and my feet, knees, and hips have never felt better. They do an awesome job of keeping the water out too. I tested them out in the rain and by walking in deep puddles and my feet stayed completed dry. They are also comfortably padded so I expect them to be warm in winter too. I LOVE THESE BOOTS!!!

I have owned these boots for a year. I live north of Buffalo, NY and we get some serious winter weather. These are the best non-studded winter boots I’ve ever owned. They are warm, easy to get into and out of, waterproof, snow proof and sure footed even in dell snow. They run a bit small - I’m usually a 9 1/2 wide and I needs a 10 extra wide for a proper fit. Length is good, "extra wide" is not as roomy as I expected. If you are a 5E, the "extra wide" might be tight. Pro: -Have proven to be durable. -good quality -Tall enough for winter use (I don't like insulated winter boots when I'm working - too heavy and too warm) -Good quality zipper - works well -Waterproof. Gore-tex can be hit or miss and either be great or be "Leak-Tex". These are definitely water proof -Look good especially compared to junk boots like the RockRooster brand I ordered and sent back because the looked like $29 knock offs but cost $119. Con: -Needs a heel pull loop. Without one, I have to leave the laces loose to get the boot on even with the zipper wide open. Overall, these boots are excellent. Hope that helps!

I like the fit. They appear to be well made, but only time will tell for that. They are very comfortable and relatively easy to break in. That means after just a couple times wearing them, you’re good to go to wear them for long periods (8-12 hours at a time). Worth the price.

This is a solid pair of boots, with good construction and waterproofing. I took extra time and treated the seams and the exposed leather. I used them on the daily for 10+ years before they finally gave in at the arch. The tread patern works well in sand, snow and rock. They keep your feet warm and DRY. Solid toe and box keeps your toes away from harm. The side zipper gives you quick, step-in-and-go action. They're a terrific duty boot and will withstand marching.

Comfortable and easy to wear, the rounded heels are a massive improvement on the flatter ones I've had on previous boots, would definitely recommend.

Great boots. I wore them for 2 entire days out of the box...like a second skin. Light and extremely comfortable to walk and ride in. I also wore them 12 to 14hrs a day on an 8 day 5000km adv bike trip through heat, cold and rain. Dry during the torrents, warm on cool mornings and comfortable on hot days. They protected me on the one spill I had and cleaned up easy after being decorated by suicidal grasshoppers. I will be buying a thinsulate pair for fall and spring riding.
