It Works Beautifully!
UPDATE: It was a user error. Make sure you use a nitro-infused beer (Guinness in the can, Murphy's, etc.) for the top layer and you must pour the top-layer beer precisely and gently on the dome in the center and it will come out beautifully! Previous post: I'm giving it three stars because, even though I haven't gotten it right yet, I believe this gadget works. I just have to figure it out. And I don't mind drinking my failed attempts. It's not like you can ruin beer. At first, I was using bottled Guinness Extra Stout and Smithwick's Red (Guinness on top of the Smithwick's). It wouldn't work because the densities of both beers were the same. Then, I tried Guinness in the can with the nitro widget. At first, it seemed to work, but, after a while the black beer just settled to the bottom and blended with the red. So, I think my technique is off. I don't know if I should wait until the little bit of head disappears from the bottom beer completely before pouring on the top, if that's the problem. Or am I pouring the top beer too fast? I'm pretty sure you have to make sure you're pouring directly on the dome in the center, rather than on the strainer edge. That much I've figured out. The point is, I thought this thing would be a no-brainer, and maybe it is. I may very well be over-complicating a simple process. But I have followed what little instructions come with it and have had no success in layering beers. But I'm going to keep experimenting until I figure it out.

Cheers!
Fabulous! I followed the instructions, which turned out great. According to them, pour the Ale first, then the Guinness. Pour the Ale without the tool, then use the tool to pour the Guinness. As you can tell in the photo, it turned out very well. Cheers!

Works Great
I bought this for my son (In college and a bartender) and myself (homebrewer). We both love it. It is the easiest black and tan pour on the market and I have used many of them. My son got it in the mail and brought it into the bar where he works and asked for a black and tan to be poured using it. It poured perfectly. He was not working at the time, but the bartenders that were working that night ended up pouring black and tans for the rest of the customers that saw it at work. A true novelty that works well for American style Black and Tans. In the UK, they don't split them. Too bad, they are missing out on a cool thing. A great product. Try it with hard cider. It also works best if you use Nitrogen based stout for the top beer on the pour.

Black and Tan Secrets
This works way better than the turtle spoon, but still requires a little practice. The trick to a good black and tan is having the correct beer that floats on top. I bought Guiness Draught in a bottle and it lacks the nitrogen ball of the cans. The draught in a can is creamier and the nitrogen helps it float on top. A work around I found for bottles draught beer is to remove it from the fridge for an hour before you pour these. If it is slightly warmer than the bottom beer it will float much better.

Worth it if you love black & tans!
No more balancing act trying to pour Guinness over an upside down spoon! This thing’s a no-brainer. Great idea. Quality stainless steel.

Black & Tan Enabled - Drink Support System
First attempt did not work so well. Think I poured too fast. It could have been partly due to the type of ale. Second time was almost perfect. Black & Tan looked almost like a PRO had done it. Be sure to pour onto the center of the dome in the middle.

Use a spoon
It works ok but not as good as using a regular spoon. I poured the Guinness super slo and it still was hard to keep separated from the Harp.
