This has breathed life into a slightly older (2014) Mini which has a decent display but no CarPlay or nav. I was a little sceptical at first, but I did a bit of research with some YouTube videos showing installation for Mini F56. A simple plastic trim removal spatula and a T20 torx screwdriver is all that’s really needed. Installing in my Mini was very straightforward. I’m no expert but fairly handy with car head units and a bit of a CarPlay fiend so felt reasonably confident, but this was a breeze. Dipswitches need to be on for switches 1 & 2 and off for all the others. That’s it. I had the whole lot in and completed within half an hour. I didn’t need to take off the air vents as the CarPlay box is slim enough to fit behind the big centre screen. It’s tight but fits and the large connector can-bus cable is just able to sit alongside the CarPlay unit. I stuck the wifi antenna onto the back of the NBT head unit. Some minor issues when connecting but that was mainly down to the settings on the Mini NBT system and not this unit. It did drop the connection when I started the engine the first time but has been fine and fast to connect since then. As I use CarPlay pretty much all the time it’s great that within around a minute the phone is connected wirelessly and in the CarPlay mode right from the off. In fact I’d go so far as to say it’s faster connecting than my wife’s 2021 Audi A5. At this price point you just can’t go wrong!

This worked great for getting my car hooked up with car pay, it did get glitchy every so often and need resetting to connect to the phones. Don’t loose the password because they won’t get back to you if you lose or forget it, I needed to update the software but couldn’t remove the password and my bag was stolen from the garage with the manual in it. Want to easy to set up but I did get it done with some you tube video help.

Like some others, I have had this in my basket several times because I was nervous about the installation. I finally decided that I would give it a go and am (mainly) glad I did. PROs It updates a ‘16 plate Mini Cooper … that alone is worth it and would be 5 stars if not for … … CONs There is ABSOLUTELY NO SUPPORT from Road Top if you have any queries. Despite what some have said that the support is excellent, that is only if you buy direct. Buying through Amazon they do not offer any response and just tell you to contact Amazon. Which is a waste of time as Amazon doesn’t offer tech support for this. The installation manual is next to useless. The decoder box is for a mini yet the installation manual is for BMW (and not BMW Mini … BMW other cars). No use. So, if you are happy trawling YouTube for post-installation tips then go for it. But be prepared. TIPS The installation is not too scary IF you follow (and watch and re-watch) installation videos on YouTube. I watched one from the Mini Guy which takes you through everything you need to do. But - no two ways about it - it IS scary to start removing bits of dashboard. Just take it slow and you will be fine. Make sure when you try and connect after it’s installed that you connect your phone WiFi to the decoder wifi that it broadcasts (ie open WiFi on your phone, connect to the WiFi signal the box broadcasts (I think you need to use password 88888888). You need to be connected to the WiFi when driving in order to use the box. I struggled to get sound so (watching another video) went in to my Mini’s ‘Multimedia’ options and selected AUX IN. I think you have to have that selected to get audio through your Mini’s speakers. When you install I suggest putting the USB, WiFi antenna block and AUX cable through the dashboard hole next to the steering wheel. You may need to access these after installation and don’t want to keep having to take the screen off to reach them. You can tuck them back if you find you don’t need them. There are LOADS of wires, but the Mini Guy video is helpful in talking you through them. Press the 1st two plastic retainer plugs gently. If you press too hard you can accidentally pop a bit out and lose it in the back of the dashboard. Also count all the dashboard screws when you take them out and screw them back in (!!) The interface is slow-ish (slower than wireless CarPlay on my Volvo) but I can live with that given the benefits of having CarPlay in my Mini. TO CONCLUDE All-in-all I am happy I bought this BUT (and it is a big but) be prepared to go it alone with YouTube videos (either for this box or similar boxes) if you have issues with connectivity. Make sure you have / buy a Torx screwdriver and the dashboard removal tools.

Omg! So happy. I have had this in my basket for ages but was really nervous about breaking my car by taking everything apart. I watched a few YouTube videos beforehand and while doing it and it literally took me 20mins and was super easy. I am so happy that I now have CarPlay in my mini, it is so much better than expected. I would 100% recommend. They only issue which is not really an issue and going to WhatsApp the seller and ask a question but Siri works but I can’t hear what Siri is saying as there’s no sound. Minor negative but may possibly be a setting I have not set as yet. Also it fitting make sure you have the T20 screwdriver and I bought the plastic things that help take of the vent easily.

This device is so easy to install. It looks complicated, but actually it’s all plug and play technology - don’t be afraid of doing it yourself. We had some minor hiccups with the settings, but these were human-error. You really need to follow the step by step instructions. There’s a support email and WhatsApp number that you can contact. We used the WhatsApp twice to contact them, and they responded within a day. Very efficient, friendly and quick responses. This is a MUST HAVE device if you haven’t got car play in your mini. Great product, great quality parts. It just does exactly what it says on the tin. I couldn’t recommend this enough to anyone

Omdat ik een Mini MY2015 heb zonder CarPlay en een retrofit vanuit een andere auto met coderen niet zag zitten heb ik deze Roadtop besteld. Het werkt erg goed! Navigeren werkt perfect, altijd de laatste informatie. Ook het geluid is erg goed. Indien je een beetje handig bent ( en de instructie goed leest die er bij geleverd is ) dan kan je dit echt zelf doen. Na de installatie had ik wel software problemen, ik heb contact opgenomen met Roadtop en via Whatsapp ben ik uitstekend geholpen. Deze Roadtop CarPlay voor je auto is een perfecte aanvulling, ik kan deze adviseren.

L'installation a pris environ 2h, ce qui peut sembler long, surtout quand on n’est pas du tout bricoleur comme moi. Mais avec un bon tournevis et un peu de patience, c’est tout à fait faisable. Excellent rapport qualité/prix : c’est une alternative vraiment intéressante, environ 3x moins chère que chez un garage ou en concession. Le nombre de câbles et la notice peuvent faire un peu peur au début, mais il existe de nombreuses vidéos sur YouTube qui expliquent clairement les étapes à suivre. Connexion un peu lente lors de la première utilisation, mais après avoir redémarré la voiture le lendemain, tout fonctionnait parfaitement, de manière fluide. Je recommande ce produit sans hésitation pour ceux qui cherchent une solution CarPlay efficace et économique, à voir sur le long terme...

Also ich habe trotz handwerklichem Geschick und Youtube-Anleitungen ca. 4 Stunden allein gebraucht. Ich empfehle wirklich ein Set zur Entfernung der Blenden zu kaufen. Ansonsten waren viele Kabel an- und abzustecken, was sehr fummelig war. Das größte Problem war allerdings den Platz hinter der Klimaeinheit zu nutzen und den dicken Kabelbaum daran vorbei zu legen. Da brauchte ich viel Geduld. Das Ergebnis ist aber sehr gut. Es funktioniert seit zwei Monaten einwandfrei und ich möchte es nicht mehr missen. Einmal blieb der Bildschirm schwarz und erst ein aus- und einschalten der Zündung brachte Besserung. Das ist vor dem Hintergund des Mehrwerts in meinen Augen aber verschmerzbar. Also wer die Herausforderung nicht scheut und ausreichend Zeit investiert bekommt hier kabelloses Android Auto, was ansonsten nicht möglich gewesen wäre. Daher fünf Sterne.

Wanted to get Android Auto running on my Mini Cooper, and this was the solution. And not to forget - it is wireless (if you want - run using cable aswell). And this box also gave me a reverse camera. Had some issues at first, but the supplier worked with me to straighten it all out - really impressed!
