These beautiful geodes are made of Pure Bismuth. Bismuth is one of the few materials that have a greater density as a liquid than as a solid. Only a few other materials such as water, gallium and germanium, exhibit this property. The trigonal crystal structure accounts for the cubic formations. The iridescent rainbows of colors observed are caused by light scattering off thin layers of bismuth oxide formed when the surface of the hot bismuth reacts with the air. These geodes measure 2" in diamater Great for teaching about crystals, states of matter or even as a gift!

TOTAL CRAP!
TOTAL CRAP!I should have listened to the others who complained. They take Bismuth, place it in a cauldron, melt it, and let it crystalize and thats it. Regardless of what shape or quality. They sent me a flat, barely formed disk of boiled Bismuth that has literally ONE CRYSTAL on the side. Various small crystal attempts along the edges but THATS IT. Its like they said "Well, this one sucks, but %&#*$ it....let's sell it anyway.Well guess what...I WILL BE GETTING MY MONEY BACK.

Pure Junk
This is an absolute rip off. May be two tiny geodes inside a shallow type bowl that has been spray painted silver. The inside has been spray painted as well as I flaked some of it off. It's not even worth selling at a Dollar Store! I only left one star because I had to. I have very seldom in all my purchases online ever had to leave a bad review but this item certainly warranted one.

Pretty cool
This thing is HEAVY! The one I received isn't as pretty as the one pictured but I know each one is different. My daughter collects geodes, rocks and crystals so I bought this for her. I believe she will be very happy.

SO COOL!
I bought this for my son who is in love with the periodic table of elements and has read much on bismuth. It was beautiful and he is absolutely captivated by its colors and crystal textures. So cool we think about making our own but much easier to buy it and admire it!
