Q: How does its MAC filtering work? Among others, a) can I set up an access schedule and b) does the MAC filtering impact performance?

MAC filtering will not slow down performance. If you use MAC filtering instead of WEP, WPA/WPA2 security for the wireless it will actually speed it up a tiny bit because it will only allow access to the MAC addresses you entered and it won't have to encrypt each packet it sends wirelessly which means that it can run slightly faster. The link posted by the user below shows how to do it. For access restrictions, there is an option to set up a schedule. If you go to the manual on this site --> http://belkashop.com.ua/products_files/WRT54G2_V10_EN.pdf it will show how to set it up. It's fairly straight-forward. Q: Can this router be turned into a WAP? (Wireless Access Point?) I have a wired router at work but want to get a wifi going for personal devices,

I am not sure about it. I do know that our Samsung Smart TV works with this and my daughter's Leap Pad Ultra uses WiFi through it if this helps you at all.

Q: Can't connect more then 4 devices at once? Connection dropping randomly? Anyone else had these problems?

I have my Linksys connected to my internet through my cable provider and never have issues. I use my phone, laptop, and my son uses his play station and computer all at the same time.
