OTC is owned by Bosch. They make things in 3 countries. In the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Ive been using OTC tools on a daily basis for 25 years and have NEVER had a bad one. OTC is a brand you can bank on it being a quality tool. They make things for many, many other companies. Several manufacturers and several tool companies. Snap on and Mac being a couple of them. Im on the Snap On truck every Friday and have compared many things over the years and have even found identical mold or casting marks on Snap On tools that my OTC tools have. ( I wouldn't have a MAC tool thrown at me these days) I dropped the $ for the OTC race and bearing driver master set 20 something years ago and its not failed me yet.

Q: I am mainly interested in the pitman arm pullers and comparing theOTC to the Gearwrench kits. Does the pitman arm puller work well on 1/2 ton trucks?

Take a large pitman arm, a die grinder and cut about an 1/8th eyeballed off of one of the inside teeth and it will slip onto any diesel needed. Promise.

Q: Is this kit durable enough for service on a 3/4 ton?

Yes, I do not see any reason why you can't service a 3/4 ton vehicle. Pullers are plenty stout. I have never tried it, the question I would have is if the 3/4 ton parts are of a size that cannot fit in the dimensions of the tools. Most of the 3/4 ton stuff is only slightly larger, the main difference are spring rates.

Q: What exactly is: "Rugged construction material"?

These tools are pretty heavy-duty. I one of the tools to take the idler arm off my Toyota pick-up and didn't have a problem. I'd previously rented a pulling tool from Advanced Auto Parts, and their tool fajiled.
