Can we dispense with calling everything steam? i can play with a rock with a kid and get science, technology, engineering, art, and math out of it.

Hello there. Congratulations on educating the next generation with rocks. I agree and believe whole heartedly that many lessons can be taught with gravel. Point of fact, I taught my son about gravity with the help of a rock. First Newtonian gravity by dropping the rock, then basic relativity by stretching a piece of cling wrap over a mixing bowl, placing the rock in the center, and rolling marbles around the rock, demonstrating orbital physics. Granted, the latter demonstration required additional props, but replicating the fabric of space/time with a flexible stretchy rock seemed difficult. To answer your question, however, "Can we dispense with calling everything steam?" you may discontinue the use of the word steam to describe all nouns and verbs at any time. In fact, I encourage it. It seems a rather confusing practice to me anyway, not unlike Squanchy in my humble opinion. I prefer to reserve the term for discussion in reference only to water in its vapour form and on rare occasion to Victorian and Industrial inspired douchebaggary, but only when preceding the word punk. I leave it to you to use the word as you wish. I hope this answers your question.

How do you build the chain? I can’t make the links stay together long enough to add it to the mechanism.

Hi there, the chain links should snap together. On page 4 of your instruction booklet it shows you a visual of the direction they would face, then snap them together (plastic hooks onto round rod on chain link - they snap together) - then they should stick together nicely and provide a stable chain link for your coaster).
