5th case in 20 years. Exactly the same and awesome.
I don't understand what all the fuss and disappointment is about. I've used these cases for my Coleman lanterns for 20+ years and have never had one fall out on me. The design hasn't changed and the quality remains the same as my first one. I buy a case for each of my lanterns because they provide the perfect amount of protection while not taking up too much extra space.I think it might be tricky for some, as the ball nut needs to align with the recess in the top of the case for the cover to fully seat all the way down on the base. This needs to happen for the case to latch properly and you can't see what's going on inside while doing it so maybe that's the issue. And the case will NOT latch on it's own; there are nubs on the bottom of the bumps that protrude through the cover. Once seated properly, the sides of the cover will snap over these nubs when pushed inwards, and it will not come apart once snapped into place. Even rough handling will not pop the sides open. If this is hard to picture from my description, try doing this without the lantern in place and it will easily latch properly and securely.I think for those that had their lantern fall out did not have it latched properly. It could probably hold 30 lbs or more in there without a problem. Once the design is understood it will instill confidence. I've hiked steep trails up and down while carrying the lantern case by the handle and have never felt the need to add a safety rope or tape to hold the bottom in.The case will protect the lantern more than a cardboard box, and it is pretty much rainproof. By design, falling rainwater cannot get into the case if it is sitting upright. But it is not shockproof and provides no cushioning. So pack your lantern in your 4x4 with care and it will be fine but you can't throw it or run it over and expect protection. And you can't put your lantern in the case while it is still hot, lol. Common sense folks, the latern uses fire and your brand new case is plastic.

The Ultimate Protection for Your Coleman Lantern
I bought this for my Coleman 295A lantern, and it fit perfectly. I'm really impressed with this product. The Coleman Lantern Protective Carry Case is strong and keeps my lantern safe. It's great to have a place to store my lantern and extra mantles. It's easy to use and makes carrying my lantern much easier. I'm very happy with this purchase. This review represents my personal opinion and experience with this product. Good case, but be careful of the snap-latch. Can be used with smaller Model 242C also.
1. As other reviewers have noted, the snap-latch of the top to bottom is a little chancy. It's good to reinforce it with a strap (about 4'-6" length required) to ensure the bottom doesn't separate from the top, sending your lantern crashing to the ground while you hold the handle on the top and exercise your X-rated vocabulary.2. That said, this is a good case, good value for the money. I ended up buying a second one for another lantern, I liked the first one so well.3. This fits the Model 295-700T Dual Fuel very well. It's designed for that model. I have an older Model 242C, which is smaller, which it fits reasonably well with a little modification. Because the 242C is smaller, it doesn't "lock" into place with the case, and can bang around inside, potentially breaking the mantle. The simplest fix is to glue or double-stick-tape a section of closed-cell polyethylene pipe insulation inside the very top of the case, beneath the handle to provide a top cushion that engages the top of the shorter lantern. I used something like a 4"-long section of 1" thick insulation for 1" pipe (3" + overall OD), and it works well. Also, the smaller tank of the 242C fits in to the smaller-diameter "well" below the usual resting spot for larger lantern tanks, though it takes a little finessing with the lantern's wire hanging bale to get it all to fit. All that said, it works pretty well for the smaller lantern as well, and I'm glad I bought it for mine.

Great case/ Pictures show fix to bottom falling out/
5 Stars protection / 3 Stars for ease of use/ 5 Stars PriceGuess about time for me to write another product review. This is similar case to my other lantern case with the same hard to snap bottom. Yes those tabs at the bottom are wicked hard to snap in place and also if you don't get it all the way snapped then you will find that your lantern falls out and breaks. Also I have seen a case that has had a snap at the bottom missing in the past. Yes folks plastic can break. This plastic is very tough and I expect to last a long time. Here is your fix:Simple fix to keep you from writing a one star review due to the bottom falling out. As you will see in my pictures I've taken a 60" piece of 3/16" line from Home Depot and made a restraining cord to keep the bottom from falling out just in case a tab should fall off. I thought of using a strap but I wanted something that would also small and easy to get on and off. There are two loops tied in the cord. One for the nub at the top and one loop to tie a quick release half hitch knot to.Lastly: No discount to me for this review. Not vine or any of that. I am Prime so shipping was free, but I paid for my Prime too.
