It's a retro replica for grown ups. NOT A TOY FOR CHILDREN!
I bought this and got amazed how beautiful it really is. I just love those retro-future replicas of robots... as they were imagines in the 50's and 60's. And this one looks beautiful when you open the box and hold it in your hands. It comes with a key for winding... and starts walking.Unfortunately, these robots are VERY FRAGILE and should not be given to a child!!! It may break easily into small pieces that can hurt a child or be swallowed. As I say on the title, this is for grownups and collectors... and NOT for kids. And I stress this because these robots are indeed beautiful and I have no doubts many kids will want one... and get disappointed because of how little it does and how fragile it is.Highly recommended for collectors. This is one of a whole line of retro robots made by Schylling aimed at collectors. Check them because they are all beautiful.

Not worth the $30...flimsy and falling apart
I just bought this for my husband who likes robots, for Christmas. It's cute as can be, but the praise ends there. First of all, in packing, it was just tossed in shipping box, with no packing material, when I recieved it, it had fallen out of it's own box, and had been tossed around. It's basically a cheap piece of tin. I haven't given it to hubby yet, a it's the 22nd, but as I was wrapping it, one of the antenae fell off. I am VERY disapointed with this item, and really don't want to pay to ship it back...but this is ALOT of money for an item that isn't worth $1.98. HI might be able to glue the part back on, but for this price, it should at least not fall apart before I even WRAP it!

Looks good on a shelf
My fiancee recently purchased this for me for our five year anniversary because I'm a geek for robot stuff. Over all I'm very pleased with the look and feel of the toy; however it seems to have durability issues. She did not purchase this on amazon, but at a local store on a recent trip and the first one she bought me had a broken chest plate, which is a small orange piece of plastic next to the on/off switch. She returned it and got another one; however, the same chest piece was cracked and it had a bent claw (which was easy to bend back into shape). These are not huge deals as the crack is barely noticeable unless examined close up (say just holding it, but not say if it on a shelf 4 or 5 feet away).I enjoy the look of the toy, and the movement (which sparks when fully wound) is all right (he doesn't always walk in a straight line though, and curves heavily). Not very noisy, but my dog hates it when it is moving around. It is a nice height at 10 inches, and doesn't weigh too much. Looks good on a shelf, but isn't really meant to be played with. The box is also really nice, and I like the retro look to it.I'd be wary about purchasing a toy from the same company again, but probably would anyways since I'm not really buying them to play with.

Five Stars
My husband appreciated this nostalgic robot. This is a collectable, period. It is not a toy. Yes it is made from tin with a chrome finish. It reminds me of the nostalgic toys of the early 20th century. Even the box is made from the same type of pacgaging found in the 40's and 50's. Totally a shelf item.

Love it
This is just like Robby the Robot from the movie Forbidden Planet. What a classic. I laugh when I wind him up & watch the sparks fly around inside his Helmet.. Nice touch. LOL

Overpriced and Doesn't Work
It's described as a "collectible replica" but this is a ruse to command $30 plus for this robot. Wind it up and it does nothing but raise its legs in place. Pretty boring and if it truly was a REPLICA, it would/should work like the original; walk forward! Seriously, has the toy industry degraded so much and consumer expectations so diminished such that toy manufacturers can't even deliver a wind up robot that can walk?! And I would hardly describe this robot as "fragile".

Very cheaply made for the price..........not worth it.

Not a child's toy. But guaranteed to raise a smile.
About 6" tall, this little guy is great! I have him on my mantlepiece with the rest of my collection of robots. Like the other robots in my collection he just walks forward a short distance before it's time to wind him up again. So if you're looking for a mechanised chum to help you with your household chores this is NOT the robot for you. I like him because, as with my other robots, he (yes! They're all male robots!) makes me smile.
