I have had this product for over an year and a half now. This unit replaced my Synology NAS box which served me for a several years before eventually breaking down. When I got it, I had really low expectations of its capabilities even though I knew it was a significant investment in that I paid close to half a grand for a computer that doesn't come with any hard drives along with it. However, once I set it up (4x 2TB) and started playing around, I realised that I didn't get just some experimental management software as an add on to the NAS/RAID capabilities but a really mature cloud enabled software stack with a wide array of sophisticated features that make it a complete package and more than I ever imagined. Here is how I use it: 1. As a NAS box to store and access my huge library of personal media (both audio and video) from my iPhone and iPad 2. RAID 10 configuration for peace of mind to prevent data loss in case one of the hard drive cops out on me which it did several times in the past resulting in loss of personal data. 3. Multimedia player - Really love the fact that KODI comes pre-packaged with it. Only gripe is that I can't play DVD folders as is using the physical remote because it doesn't have a play button on it. 4. Windows VMs - We are a completely Mac only home, but there are times that we need to access an app that runs only on Windows (my daughter needs it for her classes), I've set up a Windows VM on it and everyone at my home accesses it over the network. I've upgraded the memory on it and now I have a total of 16 GB RAM. Adding memory to the box is a bit of a pain though as you have to open it up completely. 5. Manage torrent downloads remotely (no need to be on the same LAN) over the QNAP Cloud using either the web or mobile apps 6. I had used it as a Time machine backup but lately the backup has become useless and I keep getting asked to create a new Time machine backup. This is an issue QNAP needs to address. 7. As a desktop Ubuntu Linux computer I registered with QNAP cloud and routinely access it remotely using a wide variety of QNAP apps (both desktop and mobile) enabling its access from anywhere on the internet. The Web based QTS user interface (for NAS and Media management) is incredibly versatile, really slick, intuitive and very responsive. There are a ton of interesting Apps (Docker Containers, Web Server, Surveillance system etc) that are available for free through QTS which I didn't have the time to fully explore. All in all this is one of the best purchases I have ever made and I couldn't have been more satisfied.

A very fully configured NAS. As well as the disks, it has a lot of extra software functionality. The QNAP support people are a bit slow but they eventually get round to solving the problems. The HOW TO's could be a bit more specific for a beginning user. There is a LOT of functionality there and it is not always obvious what the correct course of action is. I have not had time to try out the video streaming functionality yet.
