As an engineer who grew up in the era of hand drafting, I love instruments like this. As a beginning sailor, I *really* love instruments like this when compared to plastic or stamped metal ones! Beautifully executed in metal, good friction to hold the dividers the selected distance apart when transferring to the chart scale, and a classy appearance that is as nautical as any I've seen. The leather case is a very nice extra touch and the price is excellent; so much so that I bought two sets of dividers so I could gift one to a friend who I sail with. Probably won't be allowed in an airline carry-on, but what is allowed these days anyway?

Nice pair of (adjustable) chartwork dividers.. but what on earth are they painting onto the supplied plastic wallet?It has a strong chemical odor (as noted by another reviewer here) and it has clearly been painted with something as you can see the brush marks.Just tell me why??? (I'm probably going to throw the storage wallet away and use something else).
