A hot idea that holds water
I installed these a few years ago and still working strong! Water is hot and stays hot through multiple showers. Simply remove the old ones then install these. Direct fit. A great value that been running strong for years. They won't stop working for a long time. Still working

Watched 1 or 2 videos how to swap both heating elements and thermostats. Kit comes with everything except Teflon tape and pipe thread sealant. If there is one thing I would improve is the rubber washers that come with heating elements. They are too flimsy and just get squeezed out when you screw in the elements making them useless. I recommend using pipe thread sealant with a Teflon tape to make it 100% leak proof. Kit is very well out together and thermostats are preset to optimal temperature. Save money and get this instead one from your local hardware store, highly recommend this kit for anyone wanting to swap all heating components at once. Took about 60mim to do whole job. Remember, don't turn on the power until you have refilled tank and burp system by opening hot and cold water faucets and getting all the air out.

Just buy the whole kit....
This is the second time our water has caused our bottom element to go out. We have minerals, etc in it even with the water softener on. We've had a few gaps where it ran out or where the softener backwashed when we were using the water (if the timer got accidentally reset etc). I refuse to call a plumber because this is totally something you can do yourself. A few things we learned - opening the house taps does not provide enough air to drain the tank. It creates a vacuum anyway and you think your tank is empty and you'll find out differently when you go to remove the bottom element and water gushes out. The solution is to remove the top element and leave it out since now there is a large hole for the air to get in. Now finish draining the tank. If you have sediment, use a shop vac with a smaller hose taped to the end and reach in and suck out all the sediment in the bottom of the tank. The first time I change the elements they were nearly impossible to remove because they were still the original factory ones. There is absolutely no need to put them on that tight. When I replaced them, I used vaseline on the o ring and just put them in snug and had no issues with them. Just get the whole kit - because the one element alone is like $21. If your bottom element is out and you still have hot water, your top element is going to have been working overtime to compensate and could have a shortened life. Much better to do it all at once and that way you have spare thermostats. We've saved a lot in calling the plumber by doing this ourselves.
